System Update and Power Manager in Win8 Pro Upgrade on x120e

Thinkvantage System Update 5.0 in Windows 8 says I need to update the USB drivers.  When I tell it to, it almost finishes the download, then gives the error that the download failed. I manually updated the USB drivers specified for Win8 64-bit by downloading the driver and successfully installing it.  But, System Update does the same thing.

 

I also can’t get the Power Manager (geku09ww.exe, 1.66.0.17, Lenovo Power Management Driver for Windows 8 (32-bit, 8 64-bit) - Notebook) to start after installing Windows 8 Professional Upgrade.  The battery monitor works OK, but when I try to start the program, it doesn’t finish starting and eventually gives the error, "Power Manager stopped working...."  This is on the Lenovo ThinkPad X120e 596-2RU.  I've even tried uninstalling in Safe Mode, then reinstalling.
