T410 + Client Security Solution

2011-02-06, 23:15 PM

Hey,

I am using a Lenovo Thinkpad T410 with Win 7 Professional 64bit.

My problem is the following:

The client security solution / password manager says that the fingerprint reader is not activated ("For the request operation the authentification with a fingerprint is necessary, but the device is not installed. Please ensure that the device is connected and try again").

However, the fingerprint reader is correctly installed (I can use it to sign in to Windows).

What I tried (in that order):

- Uninstalled the Client Security Solution, Thinkvantage Fingerprint software, and the fingerprint device and all its drivers from the device manager

- Installed the device & drivers, Thinkvantage Fingerprint software, and Client Security Solution

CSS Version 8.30.0031.00

Thinkvantage Password Manager 3.20.0320.00

Thinkvantage Fingerprint software 5.9.3 build 6581

Result is unfortunately the same. Anyone any ideas?

Thanks!

Try F1 while booting and goes to Bios and check your fingerprint and security chip settings.

Also, read the Client Security and Fingerprint drivers to see if they are compatible with x64 and especially with each other. I got gut feel that the fingerprint driver for x32 version will work with the CS, so you may want to try installing it on the window x64 since it can run x32 drivers.

The BIOS settings seem all fine - the thinkvantage fingerprint reader software and the single sign on functions all work fine. it is just the client security solution that does not recognize the reader.

Installing the 32 Bit drivers is not possible as the installations stops with the warning that the windows biometric framework is not activated.

Any other ideas?

Hello,

I am having exactly the same issue, T410 with Win7-64 and all the same versions of ThinkVantage softwares.

Any update to solve this issue? It is annoying that I can't use fingerprint to authenticate the password manager and have to retype the windows password.

Thanks.....

open Client Security Solution at the top left click on advanced select manage security policies that will open policy manager there is some user actions check to see if each is set with PW & or FP If you  use both then both will be required & I have it set if no FP reader is detected use PW

Thanks for the response but I have tried that and when CSS needs authentication, it will say the finger print reader isn't installed and then jump to the password authentication. The problem is still there that CSS doesn't recognize the finger print reader is installed regardless the selection of the security policies. Deselecting FP in the policy only hides the issue.

Any other ideas?

After further searching, I found this is actually a well identified issue that lasted for more than 6 months. The only solution for now seems to be rolling back the finger print software/driver to earlier solution, which I can't find now.

Any good fix for this yet, I am not to happy with having to roll back a driver for a security device.

After my post I looked for new updates and I had a CSS update and it in fact fixed it.
