T420S - Can't install TVSU and a few nits - FIXED!

2013-05-02, 17:43 PM

UPDATE: Fixed
Followed info in this thread - http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkVantage-Technologies/Lenovo-System-update-5-1-won-t-install-on-windows-8/m-p/1017005#M22109

Removed all traces of it in registry, rebooted, reinstalled and all seems to be working for now. :cathappy:

I just did a fresh install of Win8 and all the Windows Updates, but I'm unable to install Lenovo SU tool. It keeps giving me error that says "wizard was interrupted before service could be completed...". I tried to do "install as Admin" - no love. Any ideas?

Thanks!!!

Did your win8 system come with a versiion of SU installed?  Did it offer, new release available, vs you went to download center for update?

SO it failed during install. Go to users/*yourid^/appdata/local. Look to TVSUupdate log or similar, post the last 50 lines.

Try current release

:systemupdate502-04-11-2013.exe System Update  5.02.0011        (04/16/2013)

Muliple issues(2). Install fails with  Suservice not in service  list (you link stated), msc.exec or similar.

TSvukernel.exec not in SU update folder.

another post:

Look it up from Administrative Tools->Services, Properties and Service Name on the General tab. The name of the executable is not important.

For me, the problem was that System Update failed to install repeatedly, yet I had a service called SUService refering to a Lenovo System Update folder under Program Files, that did not exist. After removing the service manually, System Update installed fine.

I can only imagine uninstalling the System Update did not remove the service, and installation failed, because a service with the same existed, but System Update was not installed.
