ThinkVantage Communications Utility and Alt+Tab in Windows 7

2011-05-15, 1:45 AM

When the ThinkVantage Communications Utility is installed, the Alt+Tab switcher doesn't stay on top of other windows during Aero Peek. Uninstalling it remedies it, and reinstalling it causes it. It doesn't seem to affect Server 2008 R2.

Anyone else seeing this issue?

I'm seeing that also on T500 running Win7 32-bit, so I uninstalled communcations utility like you said and the problem went away!  I have no idea how communcations utility could affect Alt+Tab like that, and I'm curious how you figured that out?

Thanks for pointing this out and I'll raise the issue with the communications utility team so they can solve the problem.

Discovered the issue here:
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/Multi-touch-Capabiility-question-regarding-touchpad/m-p/434967#M43813

A bit of Googling turned up a thread implicating ThinkVantage Communications Utility.

The weird thing is that Server 2008 R2 on my X100e seems to be unaffected.

Actually, even with the thinkvantage communications installed, initially when the laptop os turned on the alt tab works fine. after  a certain amount of time, the alt tab starts to mess up.

Ok i just uninstalled and reinstalled it, apparently it is now fine. Alt Tab works now ....i can alt tab without having it preview the screen  unless i select it. this is strange. maybe it is some other process which is running which we are not seeing that is causing this?

It might be that the hotkey and communications utilities aren't loaded right after boot, and hence don't interfere.

Maybe one of the microphone services does it?

Just checking in to confirm this problem. Running W7 x64 Pro. The only Lenovo software I have loaded is the Power Manager and the Hotkey Utility.
