ThinkVantage Device Experience

2009-11-18, 18:40 PM

Can anybody tell me what this is ment to be?

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-73962

"This package installs the following software on systems that run on Windows 7 (32-bit) and (64-bit ) operating system.
- Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools
- Device Experience"

Does it install all ThingVantage Tools? And what does Device Experience mean?

It adds some fancy graphics to the "Devices and Printers" menu.

Thank you!

But are those fancy graphics the same Windows 7 installs anyway?

The README file calls it Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools. There is a selection available in the Programs menu called Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools -- not sure if it was there before. It's just a simple menu for selecting among the various "red dot" Lenovo utilities. Still, 63 megabytes is pretty sizable for just a menu.

I suspect (hope) this package also includes the performance tweaks for Windows 7 that Lenovo has been hyping as  "Enhanced Experience." Note this from the README: "Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools provides a wide range of tools and applications and device experience in an integrated manner. It provides Protect, Connect, Support and enhanced experience for the Think product systems."

Lenovo doesn't seem to have included an uninstall utility with the package; it doesn't show up in "Programs and Features." So I hope I like it, because I guess I'm stuck with it.

OK, I was wrong. It's two things:

  1. the new ThinkVantage Tools menu
  2. Lenovo-specific Windows Device Experience metadata

Unfortunately, the mysterious Win 7 "Enhanced Experience" remains a secret sauce bestowed only on preloaded systems.

Would be nice if Lenovo would tell us what something is, and how or if it can be uninstalled.  The current situation looks suspicious, and I am mildly concerned that there is something on my system that makes it a slight headache to uninstall itself, and doesn't disclose its purpose or operation.

Is "Device Experience" the link to the machine under "Devices and Printers," with the window stating "Lenovo Thinkpad, Ultimate Business Tool" etc?

Hello Everybody...

My first message on this forum:smiley, wink:

On TVSU is available to download ThinkPad Device Exp. As an optional update

Which is different is between TP Device Exp. And Lenovo Think Vantage Toolbox?

Do I need TP Device Exp. if I have Toolbox?

With Best Regards
