Thinkvantage Backup and Recovery Problems

2009-02-11, 8:19 AM

I'm having problems with my Backup and Recovery software. I'm on a T60 with Vista Business and I'm not sure which version of the Backup and Recovery Utility I have. This program has been eating my memory like the cookie monster inhales cookies. Not only does it eat through the memory, it tears up the hard drive leaving it extremely fragmented and noticeably resistant to any defragmentation software ex.(fragmentation barely decreases or doesn't decrease at all). My computer performance over the past few days has been on par with the days of Windows 95.

I want to uninstall this program but cannot find it under control panel, what should I do? I want it and everything associated with it off my hard drive. I wouldn't normally ask for help, but I cannot find my recovery disks, so I'm a bit desperate.

First you need to go into start-programs-think vantage-rescue and recovery, in the advanced options click on show all back-ups and you will see when and how many back-ups have been made. You can delete the back-ups from R&R. You can also cancel or change the scheduled back-ups if you wish to.

There should be a folder C:\SWTOOLS\APPS in there there will be the install folder for RNR. Running the Setup may allow you to uninstall it.

Hope this helps

It seems System Restore for Windows was causing the fragmentation. The defragmenter could not defragment any of those files. I still don't know what role RNR had with slowing my system down. I may have unknowingly uninstalled a good working program but oh well. My performance and fragmentation worries are finally gone, so I thank you for your help.

Raijin,

glad you got your system sorted :smileyhappy:

If you feel the need, you can always reinstall R&R from the swtools/apps folder. It's still there for you.

Regards

Andy

How to delete the back ups in the Rescue and Recovery

2009-10-30, 4:27 AM
Using IBM/LenovoT61 for almost 2 years. The Rescue and Recovery in the Think Centre has been backing up my data on a preset schedule. Now it is taking up 40+GB. I tried using the same software-Rescue and Recovery-to delete the back ups. However it says I do not have enough space to complete the action. I tried to delete starting from 8GB free space left to now about 16GB free.  Still, it says not enough space to carry out the action.  Is there any other way to delete the back ups in the Rescue and Recovery? Or, is there any way to know how much more space do I need to run the delete in the program?  I  tried in safe mode already.
Thanks!!!
