Windows 8 + Thinkvantage System Update = Total System freeze

2013-09-16, 10:02 AM

Hello,

I already told my problem at the service hotline but the said that my system was deliverd with Win 7 and there is no software support for another OS.

I tried Windows 8 on my Thinkpad T420 (4236-A26)

When I started system update, it works until 89% and then I got a complet system freeze.

Only a hardreset helps. I treid to reinstall it, nothing changed.

Can you please help me?

Maybe my Thinkpad ist not at the online-database of Lenovo System Update...

Greetings

Christopher

I tried 3 different installations, 2 times with DVD and 1 with USB.

Every time I got a System freeze, so my installation is not the problem.

Please help me

Do you have any kind of anti-virus/anti-malware application running when you installed System Update?

Before you launch System Update, can you verify you have the SUService listed under Services in Task Manager (it should have a status of Stopped)?

I just migrated my wife's T410 to Windows 8 x64 Pro.   Every time I installed the Lenovo Thinkvantage update recommended Intel Chipset driver my PC would freeze shortly after booting.  So this is to say, install off the network and then manually install everything yourself.  There is an option to not let W8 automatically install driver and other updates.  It has to be some conflict you are not seeing that is locking your system because my wife's T410 is working fine now that I finally isolated the driver making it freeze.

Nothing is installe on the T420, no Ativirus etc.

And the SUService is listed, I can confirm this.

I tried 3 different installations, so this can not be a problem!
