Re: backup in rescue and recovery is unsuccessful

2015-05-02, 15:19 PM

You are using rnr 4.52.017.  You have a C,D, lenovo Q, and System_drv.

You started backups Dec 18, 2014.

During your Jan 21, 2015 backup, backup space limit reached.

Wed Jan 21 16:10:20 2015 RescueRecovery: Backup Space Limit reached.  295GB free.  38GB in 1

Mar 22  You took backups at 11:44am . later at 1:20 pm

You seem to be setting automated backup schedule AND you lowered the maximum incrementals from the default of 16 to 1. <<my best guess

<<<The following merge activity is the first to show up in the log.

Sun Mar 22 11:44:48 2015 Verbatim: WriteDriveContents(DriveLetter='C:', Dest='C:\RRbackups\SZ\81EC62EDF453CB11-B3B4F9EAC20D4536', Level=2, SleepCount=0, DeviceType=1,

Sun Mar 22 13:20:27 2015 RescueRecovery: Deleting backup in location 1, level 1

Sun Mar 22 13:20:27 2015 Verbatim: MergeIncrementals(DriveLetter='C:', Destination='C:\RRbackups\SZ\81EC62EDF453CB11-B3B4F9EAC20D4536', Local='1', High level='2'

Sun Mar 22 17:21:53 2015 RescueRecovery: Deleting backup in location 1, level 0

Apr 25 you restored your system from a backup.

at Apr 25 21:45:04 2015 RescueRecovery: Restore executed: location=1 level=0

Apr 26 you attempted to backup your system. This fails.

Sun Apr 26 13:13:00 2015 Engine: Unable to perform backup - Trying to back up level 1, when level 0 doesn't exist - dwRet = 0x0000055e  (This was for the C drive)

===

Your \rrbackups folder seems unusable for some reason.

(1)Uninstall RNR.  This will remove \rrbackups on C drive.

(2)Install RNR

(3) Leave maxincrementals at 16.

(4)Uncheck the "warn when backup space exceeds" xx GB.

(5)Disconnect from the internet and disable your anti-virus program. This will make the base backup, level 0, run faster.

(6) Take your base backup.

Re: backup in rescue and recovery is unsuccessful

2015-05-06, 2:31 AM

The user stated:

I tried it two times after reinstalling the program. What can I do.

What causes that error to repeat after 4 attempts

t440s running Windows 7. It is a new machine, so incrementals might not be relevant.

The machine is new enough that I had never done a backup before. I assume that that makes incremental parms irrelevant

==

I stated the point of failure. User never reinstalled RNR. User did try to run RNR after apr 25  failure 4 times.

User did manipulate max incrementals march 22 2015. User did take a base backup Dec 18, 2014.

User did a machine restore apr 25.  RNR backup failed apr 26

Report your situation accurate, the best you can.

unanswered questios

2015-07-20, 4:20 AM

A couple of weeks ago, I asked about how to do rescue & recovery back ups incrementally.

Nobody responded except to say that he had the same question.

Do you remember this post?

https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkVantage-Technologies/backup-in-rescue-and-recovery-is-unsuccessful/m-p/2073958#M27020

We had an  extensive offline discussion via email.  Your facts did not add up. ie, what you stated , did not match up  with the RNR run logs,.

I can help more.  I find your two week, someone had the same issue  claim not supported by documentation or post to support your statement.

After you reinstall RNR, check parms. Uncheck the 300 MB warning message.

This message should state 295GB used out of 300 GB limit.

You also changed max incrementals.
