Configuration strategy for ThinkVantage

I like ThinkVantage but I would be happier if I could learn what parts of that system can be safely disabled or even uninstalled.  In other words, I am looking for a clues what is essential and what is optional.   Also some parts of ThinkVantage package seems to be redundant to what operating system offers. For example it looks like "Power Management/Battery Indicator" from ThinkVantage and "Power Manager" from Vista (available through small icon in system tray) offer nearly identical functionality. If there is a reason why we should use ThinkVantage pieces over similar function offered by O/S I would love to know and understand the difference/benefits. Windows Vista is eating so much resources that every byte we can save seems to be important. On top of that, there is many other reasons why we should not be running software we do not need/use.

So, could you please share your opinions/knowledge or/and point me to some reasonable pieces of documentation ?

I appreciate any help on that.

Thsnk you

Hello,

first of all, be patient. Burn Recovery Disks.

Vista will get ready in two weeks, after your software installations.

I would recommend to simlpy disable from start up, CSS, Private Disk, R&R if you don´t use it.

You can get problems if you uninstall them.

Use TuneUp Utillities or another program, that´s very comfortable and you can revert switches easily.

Access Connection is usefull, if you want different IP´s in different networks.

Powermanager is important for battery life in common, cause it decides, when your battery must have a charge.

Switch it to automatic charging and leave the battery in your system then turn back and relax.

Prasentation Director will not harm and is usefull if you want different monitor or TV profiles.

APS is usefull.

It will take time to know your Thinkpad, but you want loose it.

Regards

Andreas
