Disabling Lenovo Vantage nagware? How?

2018-05-14, 12:26 PM

"Lenovo Vantage now supports voice control", and doesn't take no for an answer. I get a popup asking if I'd like to install it every hour or so, in case I've forgotten or changed my mind. It's like a good old fashinoned adware infection!

How do I get this popup disabled - do I need to root out the entire Lenovo Solution Center? I can't find a "lenovo vantage" app installed on my computer either - what is it that is causing these popups? I kind of like the Solution Center, as I do believe in timely driver updates.

The popup comes in the "notifications" tray to the right in my popupbar.

You should be able to right-click on the notification that you don't like, and then "turn off notifications for Lenovo Vantage".

Though I'm not sure why Vantage is spamming you like this.  It's not our intention, and I haven't seen that particular notification more than once.

I have the same thing on a t420/win10pro.  Not quite every hour, but close, and there are 2 or 3 at once when I start/restart.  Right clicking does not work on my machine.

it's amazing my old acer emachine runs twice as

fast as this......

that annoying vantage ad, several ads actually, will

have to start taking photos.

i already bought the **bleep** machine.  isn't that

enough?

Same thing here! Spammed every hour about installing SurfEasy, Dashlane and other products.

I received a first spam message now (Dashlane). I immediately uninstalled Lenovo Vantage. Who needs such crap, for almost no value?

I've been getting the same pop-up/spam/interference every time I boot up, but stangely only after one of my Windows updates. I was pretty sure I had deleted this progam in the past, too.

Anyway. Delete the thing.

This type of activity makes me want to avoid Lenovo like the plague when it comes to renewing this device.

I have the same issue and I believe it has something to do with my warranty being expired as there is an exclamation mark which when the mouse rolls over shows my warranty is expired. As well there is a message on the main page stating the same thing.  I have gone into the settings and preferences and turmed off all of the notifications and I am still getting the Lenovo Vantage that auto opens and reminds me that my warranty is expired.  Please help me determine how to disable this as I don't intend on extending the warranty.  I do like the other utilities of the LV as does the other customer.  I just want to use it when I need to.

After doing a little looking around, I tried using the Task Manager, (Ctrl-Alt_Del, choose Task Manager), click <More Details> then click the <Services> tab; Find LenovoVantageServices Right click; then choose Stop Service.  Then Choose the Startup Tab; find Lenovo Utility, Right click, Disable.  Then under Processes Tab, Look for both the LenovoVantage and the Lenovo Utility, one will be in Apps, the other in background processes; right click each one, choose <End Task> (don't mess with any of the Lenovo Controller under Processes).  Hopefully this resolves the issue.

I am applying this or a similar workaround. I also believe it either started after some recent windows update or due to the fact that my warranty is close to expire (I got about a month left). It did not happen so often before but now every time I start or wake my laptop at some point it pops up without any warning messages, so annoying. I have all the settings off under Messages in Lenovo Center, Beta Program or Other Settings. It pops up with "What a pleasent  surprise, User". It is a surprise to be sure, but not a pleasent one. I occasionally use it to check battery health etc. or check updates but do not want it to bug me. I have set the LenovoVantageService to Manual to see if it will stop annoying me and if that won't work I will disable it for sure.
