System update offered the new software today which I installed. The net result was that Windows Client Security Software claims that the fingerprint reader is not installed (Device Manager says it is), and no password capability is allowed with the FPR for Windows Log On or programs in the password manager. Power on password works and the finger prints are registered properly. I deleted all finger prints, re-registered them with the same effect.
I've reverted to Fingerprint Software 5.9.4 which restored all of my previous functions.

The CSS is the one originally installed with my system with the Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools. The Password Manager shows 3,20.0333,00. CSS is 8.30.0045.00 in Control Panel.

You would need CSS version 8.30.0049 to use Fingerprint Software 5.9.5
Reason: Fingerprint software recently changed from UPEK to Authentec (it is the same software, just the company that makes it changed names). previous version of CSS doesn't know how to verify the certificate on the Authentec software, so it refuses to interface with it.
New CSS can be downloaded here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-73696
I don't know why TVSU didn't update your CSS at the same time it updated fingerprint software, since they are dependent on each other. That's what we are looking into now. Sorry for the trouble.

So, do I need to remove the old FPR software or will 5.9.5 install over it? Same question for CSS. Since CSS was only installed from the tools manager, I suspect that the System Update program didn't detect it properly as a dependency as it is optional.

I just reproduced the same thing you reported on my W520. I had fingerprint version 5.9.4 and CSS version 8.30.0045, then ran System Update. It pulled down 5.9.5 and now CSS/PWMGR doesn't work with my fingerprint anymore (for the reason I described above). To fix this, all I did was update to the latest version of CSS from the link I posted above. Now everything is working again.
TVSU definitely needs to provide an update to CSS, if it is going to update FPR. This has nothing to do with how you installed CSS, it's just that the CSS update simply isn't on TVSU.
Thanks for reporting the problem here on the forum.

I redid the install per your instructions and everything is back to normal including my external FPR. Thanks again.

I have exactly the same problem on my T520 after installing Leonovo updates two days ago. I assume I should proceed as outlined above?

I have 3 brand new T520's. I have the updated Password manager, and CSS. At the login screen it tells me to swipe my finger. I get the green light and when I swipe it blinks a few times but nothing happens. If I use the wrong finger it blinks orange and tells me it failed. If I login by typing my password and then try to go to the fingerprint reader util or password manager and it asks me to swipe and I do it lets me in. Also when it is powered off and I swipe my finger, it boots up to the login screen, but then will not log in with swipe.

Your problem is caused by trying to login to a domain.
