Betreff: How to make the ThinkVantage blue button work?

They did more than change the name.  It is a different totally different program.  Read the thread from the start.

Run ThinkVantage System Update and install everything.

It is a different program altogether. I installed the new LSC and the Blue button does not work either. All updates checked. Could uninstall an reinstall but not really too worried about it. The shortcut is on the desktop anyway.

Hello. I found this guide.

But i cant find the path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IBM\TPHOTKEY\8001 on my W520. I also found this:

"Make The ThinkVantage Button Open Notepad

Notepad.exe is the easiest to set up to open because you don't need to create batch files. You are only creating registry key (8001) that doesn't exist anymore because you performed a clean install.

1. Open notepad (Start > Accessories > Notepad)

2. Paste the following text:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IBM\TPHOTKEY\8001]
"File"="C:\\Windows\\notepad.exe"

3. Save the file anywhere and name it whatever you want, but change the file extension from “.txt” to “.reg”

4. Open the .reg file you just saved and…walla, use the big blue button to open the notepad program."

Since i did a clean install i need to create the registry for the blue button??

Thanks

Betreff: How to make the ThinkVantage blue button work?

Hi,

I'm a new owner of Lenovo ThinkPad X230 and after 2 days i decided to uninstall SimpleTap, because it's not needed for me. Since then i have problem, cause my thinkvantage button doesn't work properly. I would like to use it to open Lenovo Solution Center but I don't know how to do that. I even try to modify registry but there is another problem. I don't have this path \HEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IBM\TPHOTKEY\8001.

Anyone have any idea what should I do? I relly need somebodys help. Big thanks.

If you don't have that exact path then you should simply add the missing keys and value.  So in Regedit (after making a backup of your registry), on the left hand side click on TPHOTKEY that you show in your screen shot.  Then on the right-hand side right-click the empty white space and selecte New -> Key.  Name the key 8001.

Make sure the new key is highlighted on the left side and again right-click the white space on the right-hand side and choose New -> String Value.  Name the value File and give it a value of the path to the program you want to execute when you press the blue button.

Once that is done, press the blue button and you should see your program launch.

Okay, thanks now it's working almost the way I would like to. I say almost, because if the path it's too long or have a special signs like space, blue button won't work. I want to use button, to open Lenovo Solution Center which automatically install in C:\Program Files\Lenovo\Lenovo Solution Center\LSC.exe. I realize that trouble comes from '\Lenovo Solution Center\'. Is there any possible to change path of installation or name of folder without doing it in every shortcut?

Open a command prompt window and do a dir /x and it will show you the "short" name used to support the 8.3 file naming format.  For instane C:\Program Files may also be referenced as C:\Progra~1

The short names may vary depending on what else you have installed.  So work you way through the path to see what each short name is on your system.  Then you can set that as the path in the registry for the blue button.

You will probably have something like C:\Progra~1\Lenovo\Lenovo~1\LSC.exe
