This just popped up on my T410 screen:
This looks fishy because it gives no indication of who sent it or what it is going to update. I traced the popup to an executable named uts.exe, and found it in these Lenovo folders:
c:\Program Files (x86)\Lenovo\System Update\NEWCLIENT\temp\
Is this a legit Lenovo update, or is it malware?

Was there supposed to be an image attached to this?
The uts.exe is the System Update executable, and there was a new version of the ThinkVantage System Update utility released on the 27th of June that my clients picked up last week through the update program. Alas, the automatic client update failed in my case, so I simply downloaded the new version and set it up manually. Once run, it will prompt you that an older version exists and if you want to remove it.

Yes, I thought I had inserted a screen shot, using the "insert/edit image" button on the message composition window. I don't know how to attach a file in this forum, and apparent I don't know how to insert an image either.
The text of the popup message was: "System Update: Your copy of System Update needs to be updated. Click OK to begin updaing System Update." Then one button "OK". That was all that was on the box. Nothing indicating Lenovo as the source. That's what looks suspicious.
Anyway, thanks for the link in your post. I have installed the update by that channel, so who cares if the popup was bogus or not!

My systems over the last two weeks have also been receiving this pop-up. Do you know what is causing this? The systems have been in production for over 2 years.

During each run of SU, it checks the Lenovo server to see if a newer version of SU is available. During mid-July, Lenovo updated the server to offer SU version 5.06.0016. There may be a newer version of the SU on the download page. The "new update" screen is owned by uts.exe, which SU downloads from the server when a new update is available.
uts.exe removes itself from your system upon completion of install.
If you manually installed SU newer release(s) than what the server offered, you would not see the pop up screen.

I'm also getting these pop-ups suddenly. How do I check if these updates are scheduled to be checked monthly? I've looked but not found any settings for this.

Please ignore my last post. I've just discovered that different versions of System Updates have different "Advanced" options, and some versions do an option to schedule for monthly downloads.
Thanks for the help in figuring this out!

Just saw this today, and I was similarly sketched out. It'd be nice if the dialog used the wording "Lenovo System Update" instead of "System Update."
