Lenovo Settings- Lenovo battery gauge icon in taskbar is missing

Hello!

I recently noticed that the Lenovo battery gauge icon is missing from my taskbar, I can't activate it, there's no way, I right-click the taskbar - > Toolbars -> Lenovo baterry Gauge, and it doesnt work.

fhghfgh.png

I also open Lenovo Settings and click "about and setting" and then try to set on "activate lenvovo battery gauge" , and nothing happens either, actually, the icon turns "on" but when I click elsewhere it goes back to "off". What can I do? What's happening?

Re: Lenovo Settings- Lenovo battery gauge icon in taskbar is missing

The problem is back again.

After upgrade of Lenovo Companion to 3.71.1.0 on some of my ThinkPad 10 the battery gauge disappeared again.

One of the next reboots after upgrading:

2017-04-04 12.21.28.jpg

Problem starting of:

....

Access denied.

The eventviewer tells, that msiexec was executed to remove the battery gauge while startup and ended with an error

Product: Lenovo BatteryGauge -- Error 1905. Error while removing module C:\Program Files\Lenovo\BatteryGauge\BatteryGaugeTaskbar.dll from registry. HRESULT -2147220472. Please call the support.

But the Battery Gauge was installed in C:\ProgramData\Lenovo...!

After next reboot the Windows Explorer crashes just after login and a black screen with mouse cursor appeares. Running taskmanager and starting explorer.exe manually works - even on ThinkPad 10, but only with external keyboard attached.

After installing the lastest Battery Gauge bg10ww45.exe the computer starts fine again, but the battery gauge still does not appear.

My computer:

10 x brandnew ThinkPad 10, Windows 10 1607 64 bit - on six of them the error appeared (the other four didn't got rebooted after lastest upgrade).

Removal of Lenovo Settings app and re-install does not help as well as running Ccleaner after removal. Even removal and installing Lenovo Companion again does not help.

At the end of the installation of the Battery Gauge bg10ww45.exe I can see, that for appox. 1/2 second a small icon flashes on the taskbar, but that was all.

Please find a solution.

Edit:

I enabled the "Administrator" account on my ThinkPad 10 and under that account the Battery Gauge works. I enabled the battery gauge by right-click on the taskbar - "Symbol bar" (or similar) - "Lenovo Battery Gauge", but I don't know, how to give the user account the needed permissions.

It looks, that there was coming up an permission - problem with the latest updates.

Re: Lenovo Settings- Lenovo battery gauge icon in taskbar is missing

I just found a quick and dirty workaround:

Note:

Installation of the latest System Interface Foundation did not help to solve the problem. So I searched, whether there is a permission problem.

Verify, that Battery Gauge bg10ww45.exe is installed, otherwise do that previous to the next steps and reboot twice.

  1. Enable the account "Administrator" in Controlpanel - Administrative tools - Computeradministration - Users and Groups.
  2. Login as "Administrator"
  3. Try to enable the Battery Gauge by right-click on the Taskbar - Symbolbar - Lenovo Battery Gauge - the Battery Gauge gets displayed.

This is the evidence, that the Lenovo Battery Gauge is installed but the permissions are wrong.

Now we need to change a few permissions:

  1.  Open Windows Explorer and enable under "View" the "Hidden Files and Folders"
  2. Navigate to C:\Programdata\Lenovo\ImController\Plugins\LenovoBatteryGaugePackage
  3. Right-click the folder x64 (if you use Windows 10 64 bit) resp. x86 (if you use Windows 10 32 bit) and select "Properties"
  4. Select the "Security"-tab and click on the upper button ("Edit")
  5. Click on "Add" and type in "Authent" and hit Enter - "Authenticated Users" will appear - click "OK"
  6. Verify, that "Read & Execute", "List Folder Contents" and "Read" are marked and click "OK"
  7. Click on "Advaced"-button and verify, that in the table is shown:
Allow - Authenticated Users - Read, Execute - none - This folder, subfolders and files
  8. Logoff from Administrator-account and login as  normal user and try to enable the Battery Gauge.
  9. Disable the account "Administrator" in Controlpanel - Administrative tools - Compteradministration - Users and Groups.

This workaround helped me on three ThinkPad 10 with Windows 10.

Have success

P.S. (Attention: The following only works with Windows 10 64 Bit!!):

If it does not work, please run "REGEDIT" and check, whether there are more than six hits after search for "Batterygauge" but not in the key "MUICache".

In that case or if the item " Lenovo Battery Gauge" Toolbar is not shown to enable over taskbar please import the following Registry entries:

Copy the whole content of each box below into a seperate textfile and rename them to batterygauge-1.reg ... batterygauge6.reg

File  "batterygauge-1.reg"

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-18\Software\Lenovo\BatteryGauge]

File "batterygauge-2.reg"

"ThreadingModel"="Apartment"

File "batterygauge-6.reg"

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Lenovo\BatteryGauge]
"ShowInTaskbar"=dword:00000001

After that you can enable the Battery Gauge in the taskbar.

Import all the six registry files by double-click - reboot and try to enable the Battery Gauge again.

I hope, Lenovo will fix the permissions-issue ASAP.

Re: Lenovo Settings- Lenovo battery gauge icon in taskbar is missing

We have notice this issue.

And the fix is released on 2017/05/01.

Update is from IMcontroller service.

Please ensure IMController service is running. And after several reboots, it will apply the permission issue fix.
