This looks like a fairly common forum message and similar to others if the error dialogue is left open the toolbox continues to function.
I've worked through most of the suggestions on the forum, installed the latest version of ThinkVantage etc, but have run out of points to try, any suggestions?

Updating my own post here.
The problem is with Version 6.0.5849.23, the current Lenovo site version is 6.0.5802.24 which works fine.
Letting the ThinkVantage Toolbox updating itself causes the issue on my m/c at least.
Still open to suggestions as I'd like to keep my system uptodate, apart from the BIOS that is!

Thanks for sharing the fix and noting the versioning issues that you encountered. Begining tomorrow, we are sunsetting Lenovo ThinkVantage Tool box in favor of a new application, Lenovo Solution Center.
The support page for our diagnostic tools will be updated to include LSC starting 2/10/12

We are doing additional regression testing and I expect we will add to the list of models that can be supported by LSC. The list of currently supported models is on the LSC page on the support site. You are correct that the W701 is not currently listed.

I'm another who has been plagued by the "...Toolbox has stopped working' problem. Do I have hope that my SL500 will be added to the list of systems supported by the new LSC?

Its been a while, has the LSC been rolled out yet?
Actually tried downloading its from "http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=LENV-DIAGS#lsc" but can't get the download to start.
Any update much appreciated..

I get this same error message and I've found no way to get rid of it. It's very annoying (or worse.) My L512 is not yet on the list supported by LSC. What can I do to at least get rid of the annoyance? Uninstall PC-Doctor? Uninstall any of the Thinkvantage? BTW, does the Thinkvantage button provide anything useful anymore?
