I believe there really is no problem with a hang up, rather that when doing a deep scan it does take a very long time. If you scroll down to the latest green check mark to the next scan item you will notice that it is slowly creeping forward. At least this is what is happening in my case. The full disk scan is where it goes into the very slow motion mode. I believe it will complete if I just wait it out. Try that.
