Should all win10 users uninstall Lenovo Solution Center?

Someotherguy   lenovo-employee-rank-green.png   (Lenovo) stated this morning:

Here's the full story about LSC on Win10. When Win10 1507 launched in July 2015, we had LSC in the Win10 factory preloads. Starting with the preloads that are built on Win10 1607 in July 2016, LSC was removed and the hardware scanning features were moved to Lenovo Companion. My point is, LSC is not intended for Win10 1607 or later. If you are having problems running the Companion hardware scan, let me know and I will try to help debug that. And there are other options for diagnostics as I wrote in a previous post.

The way I read it LSC works Windows July  2015.  After anniversary update, or later, august 1,2016,  LSC is useless.  Use Companion diagnostics.

I ASSUME Lenovo does not wish to Upgrade LSC to support Aug 1, 2016 windows, but chooses to Upgrade companion diagnostics to support win 10 august 2016 and later.

Lenovo needs to make a clear statement.

note:

I have windows version 10.0.14393 Build 14393, ...>1607

1507 and 1511 are discussed here:

If you have my release, you are good except for LSC.

Re: Should all win10 users uninstall Lenovo Solution Center?

Hi

I share with you the issue that Lenovo needs to make clear statements (or find where they are) about when their preinstalled and branded software reaches the "End of Life" (EOL).

For example IBM lists all it's software on the lifecicle page and gives you the "EOL" date if it applies.

http://www-01.ibm.com/software/support/lifecycle/

If an EOL date does not apply yet, they just leave the date blank until you get the surprise with an announcement.

For the moment the way that I have to recognize is a Lenovo software reached the EOL is:

1) They put an announcement like this saying you need to uninstall some software that will not run after a Windows 10 update.

2) You don't see that software being released for Windows 10 on the download page.

3) You don't see updates of the software in a long time.

I tried to document Lenovo branded software under the Thinkwiki here: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/CategorySmiley Frustratedoftware

Remember that those pages are an personal effort that I try to keep updated (help is welcome) . It is not official Lenovo material and not formally supported by Lenovo.

Re: Should all win10 users uninstall Lenovo Solution Center?

Hi

I think I understood some confusion I got with "Lenovo Solution Center" and Windows 10.

I used to have listed "Lenovo Solution Center" as supported under the Windows 10. But now that I search Lenovo's page about it, it says that LSC is only available for Windows 7 and 8.

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds104501

Where was my confusion? Lenovo seems to removed the page where it used to said that LSC was available for Windows 10. Here it is the archived page:

https://web.archive.org/web/20160313044649/http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds104501

So, I'm guessing that "Lenovo Solution Center" is finally getting withdrawn, or was it an accidental change?

I think it can be usefull to have a formal statement from Lenovo about this tool.

Regards
