Re: System Update: Package Index Server temporarily unavailable

Error 75 received from the Package Index Server

Error 75 received from the Package Index Server. Please contact the Support Center.

This error has plagued my t60p for ages and NO answer exists on the internet or on Lenovo's website.
The ability to use their Update Software is great but a pain if it doesnt work. Here is the problem and the solution.
Problem. The bios or System Update software from Lenovo is not recognizing the correct model number from your pc.
There are bios programs from Lenovo that can change the model number of your PC, but, I havent had any luck with them.

Now how to fix it.

Open Regedit (Start > Run > "regedit).

Open My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\ACPI\DSDT\LENOVO\
In that tree you will see the model that system update is sending to the lenovo package index server.
Right click on the model number that is incorrectly stored in the key and select rename.
Rename this key to the product ID from the back of your pc.
The product ID is the same as your TYPE but has no spaces or hyphens.
Exit registry and start up the system update software and everything should work.

i changed mine to 20078JU, which is a t60p, and this worked like a champ!

Re: System Update: Package Index Server temporarily unavailable

Apart from the obvious WTF, which key do you mean? If it's corrupt or wrong it's difficult to tell what to change. On my T61p I see:

DSDT
|-LENOVO
  |-TP-7L___
    |- 00002170

My model number should be 6460-6XG

Came here to say I'm receiving this error only after accepting the newest version of the ThinkVantage System Update this afternoon.

Anyone know if a server's down or if I need to troubleshoot?

EDIT:  Registry change guy...that's not it.

Re: System Update: Package Index Server temporarily unavailable

I also am having this problem.  I restored my T61 yesterday and went do perform System update and got the error message.  I think if all of us are getting this, it must be a problem on the Lenovo end.  Hopefully it will be fixed within the next few days.

Re: System Update: Package Index Server temporarily unavailable

I restored my R-61 yesterday night.
Yesterday night and today morning I tried updating the system. The system update quit after displaying the "Package Index Server temporarily unavailable"

It looks like I'm not alone!!!

All,

The TVSU server performance has been adversely affected, and we are working to restore / improve performance and availability.   Be default many systems were set to seek updates at the beginning of the month and this drives a huge demand spike at the server.  We are working to improve the server capabilities and also working to randomize the update window throughout the install base to even out the workload.

Apologies for the inconvenience.

So you're saying it's high usage that's been preventing me from downloading updates every single time that I've tried in the last 24 hours?  If that is the case if I keep trying will I get on  ???  Because I'm not seeing that behaviour.

EDIT:  OK now it's working on 3 of my systems, I am currently downloading updates.  BUT here's the million dollar question...when I just called Lenovo Business Partner support they had no idea there was any issue.  Why does one Lenovo employee have information on a known outage but the callcenter doesn't?  I smell a gap in communication.
