My 1-year old T410 (config in my sig) came with an older version of RnR. I wanted to start using it and found a newer version (4.31.0011.00) was available, so several months ago I downloaded and installed it. Since doing that, RnR never worked again. When I start the program, the splash screen displays for 1-2 minutes
and then just disappears, goes away, and nothing else happens. I got busy with other things and didn't investigate further, until today.
I downloaded a fresh (current) copy of RnR 4.31 this morning. I have seen program installation problems in the past caused by various antivirus programs, so I disconnected from the internet, uninstalled my antivirus program (BitDefender), using Add/Remove programs I uninstalled RnR 4.31 and reinstalled it from the newly downloaded file. It installed with no errors. After the reboot, RnR tried to start, but I got the exact same result - the RnR 4.31 splash screen displays for 1-2 minutes and then just disappears. The antivirus program was still uninstalled. Since my problem with RnR is the same, I'm going to re-install the antivirus program as it does not appear to be causing my problem with RnR
Any idea what the problem may be and how to fix it?
EDIT: My problem sounds just like this T61p user's problem from last year, which had no resolution:
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkVantage-Technologies/T61p-Rescue-and-Recovery-won-t-run/td-p/265265
Just to provide some additional info, if I press the ThinkVantage button during boot, the RnR main screen does get displayed. The Quick Restore button is grayed out, but the Rescue files and Full Restore buttons appear active but I have not clicked on either one since I don't want to actually start a recovery process. The Restart your system function does work and reboots the laptop.

Thanks for the reply. For some reason I'm not getting email notifications when new posts are made and just saw your post.
Windows defrag said 0% fragmented. I also have Defraggler installed (Piriform) and it said 22% but that is all in the SVI (Restore Points). Before trying to re-install RnR, I ran CCleaner (Piriform), both the main file cleaning portion and then the Registry cleaner to ensure I was starting with as clean a slate as possible.
EDIT: I found my own "old" topic asking the same question last year: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkVantage-Technologies/Rescue-amp-Recovery-Enhanced-Backup-and-Restor...
So, no one has had this problem and found a solution? Very disappointing. ![]()

when you post with the reply button there should be a check box to the right for email me when someone replies and also in my settings at the top

I received an email from your post
and got all excited. ![]()
Thanks for the info about the board settings & subscriptions, but they were already checked... and obviously I received this one notification email.
Now, back to my original problem... anyone?

Hi Gary,
I'm having exactly the same problem as you. I've also tried installation with no AV program. I am constantly using Diskeeper so I don't think defragmentation is the issue on my machine.
In fact this issue started on my machine when I tried to do my first backup. RnR started successfully but I've cancelled the procedure. Since then I cannot start the program anymore. I also have a hidden hard drive with the size of 1GB, which I cannot remove. I don't think I had that one before starting my first backup.

This is the 2nd topic on this problem I've started here and one on another ThinkPad forum. It's frustrating that no one has run into this problem and has a solution.
I've basically given up on it and started using the image backup function within Windows 7. I bought an external HDD and did my 1st backup with it yesterday.
I know I could restore the system from the factory recovery discs I created when I first got the T410, but I'm not willing to do that considering how much other stuff I've loaded on it. That would seem like a very drastic solution to the problem with no guarantee that it would even fix the problem.

Hello mate,
Somehow RnR is working for me. The only thing that I've done recently was to fix an issue with my Windows Log. The Windows Log Service could not start and after some googling I found that I had to rename one folder. Windows Log Service is working now and amazingly RnR works as well. So you can check on your machine if the Event Viewer (which is driven by Windows Log service) is running and if not, just look up the error number and you'll find the solution.
Cheers,
K

Thanks for the idea. I checked it out and Event Viewer seems to be working fine. It starts right up and I can scroll through thousands of Windows Log events under Application, Security, Setup & System. Forwarded Events is disabled & empty, which I think is normal.

Huh ![]()
Ok the only other "unusual" thing that I did was to install Intel Rapid Storage driver, which fixed an issue with chopped sound but I don't see it related to RnR.
Cheers,
