Unreadable font in new "Power Manager" 1.54.

[ Editado ]

 Hi,

Not sure if this started from the last version of power manager, but It looks like it's presenting the UI in a font I don't have (Japanese?), so I cannot read anything,  I uploaded a picture to http://tinypic.com/r/mwte8j/5 .   It used to be OK with the previous versions.

My regional settings are English-USA.   The machine is a T60 - 1951-FDG with Windows XP.   Power Manager 1.54.  Any ideas?

Thanks,
Chemi

Re: Unreadable font in new "Power Manager"

Hello chemi,

if you speak german a little refer to this thread.

Uninstall XP SP3 might help, also.

Or try a newer version of PM if possible, but read the installation instructions carefully.

You perhaps need to upgrade some other driver, Wlan, Hotkey, Access Connections, too.

Re: Unreadable font in new "Power Manager"

Hi Andreas,

thanks for the quick response.

I don't speak German, but from the Google translation I understand that hte only solution is to uninstall SP3. right?

I do have the latest version of PM, WLAN, Hotkey.  I don't use access connections, so it's not installed.

Uninstalling SP3 sounds a bit of an overkill for this problem.  Do you know where I can find older versions of the PM?  It seems to me that a version from before they moved to the new GUI (http://lenovoblogs.com/yamato/?p=203&language=en) might help me.

Thanks,

Chemi

Re: Unreadable font in new "Power Manager"

Hi,

Just to let you know - i tried reinstalling and doing all the things mentioned above, and nothing helped.

Finally, I downgraded back to PM 1.48 (which is described in the site as the last version supported for Windows 2000).  This got the UI working.

Re: Unreadable font in new "Power Manager"

Hello,

I have a T60 and I'm using Access Connections 5.20 and Power Manager 1.51a.

I don't acess these applications very often, so I don't know exactly when the issue started. I just figured out today.

Both applications have the GUI unreadable. Instead of text, i see groups of squares.

Tried re-installing both applications and tried upgrading Access Connections to 5.30. I changed the Regional Settings to United States English, as well as the unicode option of the Regional Settings (my original settings are Brazilian Portuguese), tried reinstalling then (with English settings) ... without success.

I found a few threads in this forum telling to copy the "Res" files from English to other languages (before the reboot, after the reboot), or to insert some entries in Windows Registry ... nothing solved the issue.

In time: the sub-windows (if I click some option in these applications) are okay. Only the main GUI of both apps have been affected.

The same issue doesn't happen to Presentation Manager, Active Protection System, Easy Eject, Keyboard Customizer ... only Power Management and Access Connections.

I'm using Windows XP SP2 (so the suggested solution of removing SP3 doesn't apply).

Thanks in advance for any help.

Kind Regards,

Canzone

Re: Unreadable font in new "Power Manager"

Hello all,

I found a solution.

Both PM and Access Connections use a new "visual" technology from .NET Framework. I don't know what caused the issue (maybe some update downloaded from MS website).

But the solution was to completely uninstall .NET Framework (all of them, from v1.0 to 3.5) and to reinstall from the scratch. I reinstalled only the latest version (3.5 SP1), and worked fine for me - all applications that use .NET are working. And the annoying square text is gone!

Just in case, I reinstalled .NET after changing Regional and Language Options to English - United States. After that I changed it back to my own language settings.

Hope this helps.

Kind Regards,

Canzone

Re: Unreadable font in new "Power Manager" 1.54.

Do you speak German?: You have got to be kidding me......

completely uninstall 3.5? I program for a living and that is totally unacceptable.  Get real folks.

first this shows only on my T60P and not on my T61p. This clearly states this is a LENOVO issue and not a MS issue.

Most problems can be fixed with minimal headache once you know the problem. Finding that fix can be a pain in the butt.

The real fix,

Go to your control panel

Add remove programs

Go to .net framework 3.5 SP1 and click on that line

click on change remove.

when the dialog box comes up choose repair.

This will put 3.5 SP1 in its original condition and fix your problem.

THANKS LENOVO for you helpless desk.
