Re: Vantage has encountered a problem Windows 1809

Hi - I downloaded the file, unzipped it, ran the bat file.  The cmd window opened, and this is what popped up in the middle of it -- The Lenovo Device Experience.  (see screenshot).  When I close the device experience, I can hit enter and finish the bat file and get to the restart -- but then, after the restart, nothing changes.  When I run Vantage, I get the Vantage has encountered a problem screen, asking me to download and install System foundation again.  Any other thoughts?Screenshot.png

Same here. One single file is created inside DeviceMetadataStore. Nothing else changes. Maybe, ec4d5fdd-aa12-400f-83e2-7b0ea6023eb7 does not work with older ThinkPads? (T430s here and T530 in the case above.)

Re: Vantage has encountered a problem Windows 1809

Your screenshot is showing old metadata that is not compatible with Vantage.  I can tell this by the old "Lenovo" logo and the reference to "Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools" which have been obselete for several years.  I'm not sure where it came from, but it didn't come from the file I posted.  I will test a T430 and W530 here to see if I can reproduce this.

Re: Vantage has encountered a problem Windows 1809

Thanks.  I have no idea how to delete that program - the Lenovo Device Experience.  It's not listed under programs and apps.  Funny thing is that until the October Win 10 update, Vantage worked perfectly.  Thanks for trying to help here, I really appreciate it.

Re: Vantage has encountered a problem Windows 1809

PS: I do have something called "Lenovo Welcome" in the apps/features list for uninstalls. It's dated 12/4/2013, version 3.1.022.00. Should I uninstall this?

I upgraded an old T430 from Windows 7 to Windows 10 1809.  The device stage metadata was downloaded and installed automatically by Windows, and Vantage is working fine.  So I still have no idea why the device stage metadata problem only happens for some users, or why manually installing it doesn't work for you (even though others say it's working for them).

Re: Vantage has encountered a problem Windows 1809

While I think it does not matter, please keep in mind that I have got a T430s, not T430.

I have a similar screen as Bruce443. I guess, in my case, it comes from de-DE\f65fdaf7-c116-4f00-b20e-cf5c8558a014.devicemetadata-ms. There are other similar files in other languages' folders, e.g. en-US\46a501e0-ac6a-4451-bce0-508e4863dd18.devicemetadata-ms.

Maybe that helps?

Re: Vantage has encountered a problem Windows 1809

An update on that: These files seem to come from C:\ProgramData\Lenovo\LenovoTvtTools which I guess was preinstalled. E.g. there is C:\ProgramData\Lenovo\LenovoTvtTools\en-US\46a501e0-ac6a-4451-bce0-508e4863dd18.devicemetadata-ms and C:\ProgramData\Lenovo\LenovoTvtTools\de-DE\f65fdaf7-c116-4f00-b20e-cf5c8558a014.devicemetadata-ms.
