Re: QUENCH: Upgrade to Android 2.1 for non US users

2010-08-18, 12:53 PM

That's what I believe. The uncertainty is the worst. And Motorola seems to like it. The IF is what kills us all...

@Motorola: Is it possible to upgrade, technically? And if yes, what's so hard about it?

Yes it is possible. The CLIQ XT is the same phone in the US and is getting

the upgrade. Not all carrier partners may elect to upgrade the phone's OS.

Well, you know... we´re complaining about it here, this is THEIR forum... It should be serious enough for them but, apparently, they just don´t give a damn. They probably don´t even READ what we write.

So... we should start making a lot of noise online. A blog of our own, write to specialized magazines and forums and make ourselves heard, post about it on Twitter, YouTube, everywhere...

We have the power at the tips of our fingers. Shall we start?

I will.

In the case of Brazilian (or Portuguese speaking) users, this is a place to start:

http://forum.portalandroid.org

This is a forum for Android developers, but there are forums for Quench users.

There is also the magazine INFO, a very influent IT publication in Brazil. We MUST make ourselves heard, otherwise we will be talking to ourselves here with no results.

Mark,

So, when you say carrier partners... should I contact mine to know if the elect? How do I know is my carrier will elect for it?

About CLIQ XT, is it upgrading to 2.1 or 2.2?

I believe Cliq XT is getting 2.1 soon enough, according to their schedule.

So Mark, thanks for answering, but does this mean that when the Cliq XT 2.1 comes out, our carriers could begin working on porting to 2.1 using that one instead of waiting for the Quench one? Not entirely happy as I don't see it happening, but at least it's somewhat good news.

Here in Argentina we have an Android portal as well, and we have many unhappy users: http://www.grupoandroid.com/motorola-quench/

Thanks

This is getting interesting...

So what if I'm not attached to any carrier, as it is the case here?

It is forbidden by law in Brazil to lock phones as consumers are FREE to choose what carrier to use.

CLICK (or Quench) is being sold in Brazil as an unlocked device, although it comes with the TIM flag (which I do not use).

So... what you are saying is if I buy Motorola's device but choose not to use a carrier that is not a Motorola partner, then I'm not elligible for an upgrade.

This is illegal. Please tell me I´m wrong.

The upgrade was announced Feb/2010, 6 months for an upgrade?????? The upgrade was announced just to sell more phones ?

How much time they need to upgrade ?

They are doing with android the same thing they have done with EZX  platform ?

I'm 2 months with a problem in my phone, I asked for help from motorola (https://supportforums.motorola.com/message/181829), what I have ? Nothing ...

Motorola don't care if the our phones are working or not.

Why they say a upgrade will happen ???

Motorola don't care if  the consumers are happy or not. What f... they care ?????? What f...  they want ?

I don't want Motorola anymore... I'm tired...

Hi,

As Marcos stated, you can always fill a lawsuit, since it's not allowed to sell something not working. Well, I know, it sounds dumb to mention that, since we should start from the principle that something you buy should work as expected, but we already know that this is not what happens (a lot, not  just Motorola, by the way - anyone using Telefonica's Speedy in São Paulo knows what I'm talking about).

Anyway, I like the phone. Really. Just think it should have more attention. And the customers should be heard, and more respected. We're not asking for something that is out of bounds.

I like the phone too, but I need VPN support, is present in Android 1.6 and later.

When I bought this phone, I trusted motorola... Now I know we can't trust motorola.

Updates/Upgrades are dependent on your current software existing on your device. If there is an update/upgrade for a particular software version you will get it no matter which service provider you are using the phone with. In the case of "retail" phones, phone's sold without any carrier branding, I would need to check where the determination is made for upgrades.
