Re:X1 Carbon Gen8 coming with Fedora Linux! (and other models too)

@MarkRHPearson I'm using an X1 Yoga (Gen 5), would I be correct in assuming whatever gets fixed for the X1C8 will also fix things for me? Such as WWAN, NFC, sound?

Hi @johangu

For WWAN - X1Yoga 5 is the other lucky platform to be getting official Linux support later this year.

For the others - the same comments as for the X1C8 apply here too.

Hope that helps

Mark

@MarkRHPearson Brilliant! Thanks for the prompt reply.

I'll be lurking here and looking forward to see the progress you guys are making, and WWAN support in particular.

Re:X1 Carbon Gen8 coming with Fedora Linux! (and other models too)

Hi Mark,

i am encountering this problem with Linux:

The trackpad sometimes has hickups. The cursor stops moving until you release the pad and touch it again.

Sometimes it is necessary to wait a little moment.

Mostly this appears when I try to drag and drop something with use of the trackpoint-button.

I've got a triple boot system:

Win10: no problems at all

LinuxMint 20: problem exits

Fedora32: problem exits

Machine is 20UAS04T00

Don't think that it is HW-related, cause I've got the same problem on a secondary X1C8.

Let me know if I can provide logs or similar to fix this issue.

Never had this problem with my X1C4.

Regards

Arne

Hi,

after further investigations I realized that the "frozen trackpad" also rarely occurs in Windows.

Perhaps it has to deal with the "palmcheck-feaure".

Is there any way to disable this "feature" in Linux and Windows?

@homersimpson - I'm afraid I don't know about disabling the palm sensor....I have a feeling that it's not doable but I'll see if I can find out anything in case I'm wrong

@Dkeye - the WWAN is still being worked on, it's not complete yet. The release of the Linux X1C8 for our our websales was for the end of August and we hope to have WWAN available soon(ish). There is still some development activity around the DPR application needed for FCC regulation compliance, and then it has to go through our test team.

Hi Mark,

will it be the existing Fibocom L850-GL (4XC0R38452) module or some new card?

Hi Mark,

sure it is a separate sensor?

Perhaps it is just piece of software in the driver.

At least in Windows there are some settings to lower the sensitivity.

For me, Linux is not usable atm cause of this behavior.
