This is our catch-all thread. What do you have?

Please do not PM me - if you have issues, search the forums for threads on your topic and post there, or start a new thread. Thanks!

What is the difference between the "soak" and the official Verizon post about an "update" rumored to be today?

Are there any known issues that will be addressed in the future you guys are currently aware of?

Also, will there be any feature enhancements/bug fix updates beyond this for the DroidX?

just out of curiosity... how many other rooted users are there here in the "soak" community?

for those of you who ARE rooted, are you planning to unroot and try this update, or are you going to wait?

The way i see it, there are two things to possibly wait for:

1) wait until someone confirms that you can unroot and install this update with no problems.

2) wait until gingerbread is rooted.

for myself, i've become completely dependent on a few root apps (autokiller, autostarts, and drocap, if you are curious) and i'm not sure I'll want to update until we've got a ginger-root.  then again, if this update is significantly better at overall memory management and such, I might update as soon as it's determined to be safe for formerly rooted phones.

I only rooted and started using autokiller (NOT a task manager) and autostarts because my prefered launcher (go launcher ex) had CONSTANT unload/reload/redrawing problems.  every time i ran an app and then hit the home key, go would have to reload icons and everything else from scratch, leading to constant headaches.  ADW and LP weren't much better, and of course, stock launcher is just... inadequate..  as soon as i rooted and loaded/setup AK and AS, all those problems went away. my X is now snappy as all get-out, and i've never been happier with it.

so.  any other rooted users been thinking about these sorts of things?  I know most rooters end up going with some other ROM, and so this is not terribly applicable to you, but for those of us who only rooted to run a couple of root apps, I think this update is a pretty tough decision, unless gingerbread is just massively better in many ways.

thoughts?

Matt, are we supposed to report leaks about this pre-release we are in? Because I found this thread where some are talking about having received the e-mail: http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/gingerbread-general-discussion/27093-soak-2.html

I am a rooted user.  I was debating whether to take the soak update or not.  In the end, I decided that I would unroot and install.  I know that within a few days, someone will have it rooted and ready to go (sorry Matt).  The prospect of being a "tester" for this update was thrilling, and I think it will be worth giving up rooting for a few days.  Will I root when it becomes availible? Of course!  I like many of the root-based apps.  But I am willing to try out stock Gingerbread to see if it fits my needs.

I just hope Moto finally gets rid of the annoying driver disc image that mounts first every time I connect my DX to my Mac and car stereo via USB. I can minimize the nuisance on my Mac by activating debugging on the DX, but sadly I'm not so lucky with my car stereo. I sure would like to listen to, and control, the music on my DX through my car stereo like I used to be able to prior to the Froyo update last year.

It's inevitable and unstoppable that outside discussions will happen.  But are you really going to be that student who tells the teacher that she forgot to assign homework?
