Re: Please introduce yourself: Motorolans and forum volunteers

Hi all.  I'm the IT Manager for a transportation company and we are using Exchange 2003 with no SSL.  Touchdown works fine.  I previously was able to connect to our server with the Eris Droid with no problems.  I'm getting by with Touchdown, but obviously do not want to have to purchase at the end of the trial so hoping for a solution or 'easy' workaround until then.

Hi, my name is Keith Faber. I am a systems engineer in the high vacuum coatings field. We use Exchange 2003 with SSL. I can connect but push & notifications are a problem. I am using the older e-mail.apk running in paralell. this may also work for connectivity issues.

Hi Keith,

Can you create a new conversation describing the issues you are encountering?  Specifically, if you explain in detail the issues you see with Push separately from the issues from notifications, that would be helpful.  We know we have a bug with ActiveSync email notification (for which we have a fix), but it shouldn't affect push (in other words the emails should arrive normally).

Hello, my name is Philip Pleiss.

I am an IT specialist working for a small independent financial institution.  We are running Exchange Server 2003 SP2 on our back-end and front-end servers. SSL required on both front and back end. We can get our Droid X to sync via touchdown, but it is buggy.  We have no problems getting our Motorola Droids and various WinMo devices to sync.

Glad to be a part of the troubleshooting crew and the faster I can get it working, the faster my boss with her new Droid X is going to be happy.  She absolutely hates the touchdown UI and much prefers the built in email client.

Thanks for the opportunity Matt/Motorola!

I'm Greg, network manager for an industry news publisher. Our mail system is a single box with Exchange Server 2003 SP2 (no SSL) atop Windows Server 2003. Until my DROID X, connecting the occasional mobile device -- including a DROID as recently as a few weeks ago -- has been problem-free. Touchdown currently syncs all areas of my Exchange account with no trouble.

Hi Greg,

We have a bug whereby if you don't require SSL, the native Droid X client will not be able to connect to the server.  We have found the root cause and will provide a fix, but until then, we are providing a workaround here:  https://supportforums.motorola.com/message/194083#194083

Would you mind having a look and seeing if you can try the workaround? We successfully tested the workaround but want to make sure that it has been externally validated.

Also, could you tell us why you choose to not enable SSL (feel free to email me directly at fholl@motorola.com if you don't want to post the reason publicly)?

Thanks,

Francois

Francois:

I'll look into creating a certificate for the server.

Re: why SSL is not enabled...the Exchange Server 2003 server was part of a complete network overhaul. Our consultant didn't steer us in the direction of obtaining a certificate at the time, based on time constraints and our needs. The server has remained largely hidden behind our hardware firewall (e.g., no access through IIS).

E-mails do not push correctly. I have both clients running, only the old one

has reliable push. I have been monitoring the forum looking for some hint of

a phone application fix, however only a workaround for Exchange SSL. I

thought that by this time we would have a beta solution to all of the

reported issues. I am ready to test new phone software (where the problem

is). Blur suite is broken, when you have something to test I think you have

many volunteers to give it a proper shakedown cruise.
