Re: Release notes for Droid update

Everything is working fine for me so far. It seems as stable / quick as usual. I got the update notice, updated, and tested out the new software if I could.

  • I don't have access to exchange/outlook so I can't test that.
  • I normally don't use the news/weather widget, but I tried it out and it seems to work fine.
  • The new gmail and its improvements seem to work fine, though I am going off of my memory of a rarely used program.
  • Twitter... maybe its just me but I didn't notice a difference.
  • Amazon widget? I don't seem to have that on my phone / can't find it in the marketplace. I tried installing the Amazon app and that didn't seem to give a new widget.

Are these release notes a holdover from a prior release?  I'm not seeing anything new in the mentioned apps.  I don't have/use Exchange ActiveSync, so I can't speak to that...

You asked for candid...

These few updates do not look too compelling. It seems like a very short list with very few details. Is there a more comprensive list of changes? Something to warrant the designation "numerous enhancements and improvements"? At the moment absolutely none of what I see makes me anxious to get this update.

Twitter --- I use Twidroyd and have no desire togo backwards

Amazon widget -- Don't use or want and can't see why anyone else would either

News and Weather -- I use and it looks good already

Exchange -- I use Touchdown.... native does not support remote wipe

Gmail -- Don't really use. Would not notice any update in UI.

Is there any other draw? How about performance or Battery life? These are the things that are really important to me.

I don't notice any difference at all:

I don't use the Twitter app, I use Tweetdeck.

Amazon widget? What Amazon widget? I'd LOVE to have that! Like other posters, I can't find it, just the app from the marketplace. Is that what this refers to? It's exactly the same as before, as far as I can see.

I don't use the news and weather widget. I use Beautiful Widgets for weather.

My Gmail looks exactly the same.

Am I missing something? Did my update, perhaps, not install properly? I didn't get any notifications saying so but I also don't see any difference or improvements.

YES, performance and (especially!) battery life would be welcome improvements! I'm tired of charging my phone 2-3 times a day.

I'm not sure how much and how you use your phone, but there might be something wrong with your battery. I charge mine every 2-3 days.

Ok just got the update...

install went smooth

took longer than normal for my wifi to lock in.. hrmm

Twitter - use it on rare occasion but i usually use tweetdeck

Amazon widget - what exactly was updated on this?

Updated News & Weather - Looks the same as before what was updated?

Exchange - don't use it so no issue for me here

Gmail UI - Looks the same as before.. what exactly was updated?

Detailed update notes would be greatly appreciated so we can actually read what was changed instead of our repeated "what was changed" posts that I have seen.

In my experience, every update includes a myriad of invisible changes designed to reduce errors, improve battery life and speed up the phone. (In some cases those are balanced by new capabilities, of course, like if the OS is upgraded.) We don't provide complete notes, but just the things most obvious to owners.

If you are still using your original Droid battery, it may be time to replace it. It's possible that it's reaching the end of its useful life if you need to charge it so often.

Apparently the native exchange app supports remote wipe now-  I hooked it up to my work server, and I had to grant it permissions to do remote wipe, among other things.
