Android updates for Smartphones

2013-12-29, 5:59 AM

I bought a Lenovo S820 phone and didn't realize that it was not updated to the Android OS while my Ideatab A3000 was updated. i updated my gadgets but to find out that the system was only updated not the OS itself. While I will try to wait for updates, I'm wondering when will the OS upgrade be ready until i found this article:

http://www.howtogeek.com/129273/why-your-android-phone-isnt-getting-operating-system-updates-and-what-you-can-do-about-it/

I wonder if updgrades cannot be applicable, is it possible to place another OS in it like Cyanogenmod or Jolla Sailfish which come from the Android platform as well. Otherwise if i will be stuck with no updates, I'll start to abandon this brand and look for alternatives where they will support OS updates.

One more thing, why can't the S820 screen cannot be placed in landscape mode? is there a way to adjust settings aside from the auto rotate button?i want to see my icons in the lancscape mode as well. Other apps are capable of adjusting in landscape, why does the main screen doesn't work with that? Will the OS upgrade be able to improve that? I hope I can seek some answers as I forward this concern to Lenovo customer services but it seems I didn't get any response from them.

@accjon101,

If there is an update for your phone, it will prompt you to install it. As for 3rd party ROMs, you might need to do a search on it. Note that rooting and flashing 3rd party roms will void your warranty.

Landscape mode, try using a 3rd party launcher.

I've only updated the phone once and then no more. It's a system update not an OS update. i tried a third party launcher and found out that the icons were compressed to each other. i hope lenovo can fix that bug. other phones are capable of launching their apps even in landscape mode. that includes SMS mode with landscape keyboard.

@accjon101,

That means there is no more updates for the phone either system side or OS side.

I won't call it a bug actually if they did not advertise about it. Maybe can call it a feature.
