Re: Lenovo S860 India kitkat

2014-06-26, 12:02 PM

Hi,

Great to notice that ppl from India has already got it updated to android for this Phone (S860). I was facing few problems in the updating process, hence tried to contact with service center and Customer care. Those people said the update is yet to be announced and when it comes it will be updated automatically.  Can you believe that!!??

Okay it would be nice to know that how you guys did ur update, was it just like download in phone and patch it, or it was some sort of updating through a PC suite software.

For my case I tried updating the KitKaat 0.99 Gb ROW S209_140529 by downloading it on phone... but things turned to like, after downloading 100% i.e, the phone still uses my WIFI to download ("Downloading"). I can see my data running and keeping on downloading. IT doesnot stop...

What can I do in this case and how you guys did ur update...

Thanks.

~GB

Oh I had the same problem first time I tried to update (directly from phone system update, on wifi) - and the dialogue box kept showing "downloading" even after the download was complete. I cancelled, rebooted, and then downloaded again and the update worked perfectly second time around.

I would also recommend a factory reset/phone wipe AFTER you update to kitkat, things will just be much more smooth. Do it at your own convencience, after backing up everything you need to back up. It doesn't have to be done immediately but I found my experience post-reset much more smooth than straight from 4.2.2 to kitkat.

Network dropping will be only be a problem if you use 3G/4G to download the update, I would recommend wifi if possible. If you're asking whether kitkat will cause a problem with network reception - well personally I've had this phone for over a month now, and signals and network speeds (BSNL 3G in North India) are as good as the other phones I've tried (Samsung Galaxy S2 and Galaxy S4). That may be because I live in a well covered area but overall I've found call quality. reception, network speeds very good.

Update, factory reset once, keep your phone clean of bloat apps of all kinds - run it simple and smooth and there shouldn't be any serious issues.

Hi Harsha,

No i have been using the phone for over a month now but never faced network/call drop issue.

I updated to KITKAT about 10 days ago, post that also i have not faced the issue of call drops.

At times due to faulty sim cards this does happens, kindly check with your operator on it and replace your sim, it might work properly.

Thanks Piyush for the reply.

Yes, i too thought about the faulty sim, So, got swapped my sim from the network provider (AirTel). After that too the issue didn't resolve.

Even I tried my new sim from same location in other branded phone like Samsung, LG and Motorola all had good singal reception, call clarity and even good 3G speed too.

Looks like mine has a hardware issue, will visit service center this weekend.

Will update on this.
