Caller ID to Bluetooth only

2013-01-07, 23:48 PM

I have set up the SmartActions app with the Caller ID option set up for phone calls only, no text messages.  I have the Motorola RAZR MAXX HD paired with a Motorola H720 Bluetooth headset.  Is there a setting that directs the announcement of an incoming call to the Bluetooth device only?  I don't want to announce to the world that I have a call coming in via my phone speaker.

If my Bluetooth is turned off,  I would expect the audio to be directed to the phone speaker.  But if my Bletooth is on and active, shouldn't the announcement go to the Bluetooth?

how does it work without smart actions turned on? Will your BT headset get the announcement?

The caller ID function is part of the SmartActions app.  If I turn off the SmartActions, the phone just rings and I have to look at the dispaly to see who is calling.  The Bluetooth functionality is still there as I can use it to make calls via voice recognition and receive calls by hitting the button on the headset.

In the Accessibility menu under Caller ID Readout,  there's an option for Ring Only, Caller ID then Ring, and Caller ID Repeat.  Works on my Razr without a Smart Action.  Have you tried that?

I don't see a Caller ID Readout option under Accessibility.  I have a DROID RAZR MAXX HD.

The setting is in a different place; I just checked the HD manual for you:

Caller ID

When you want to hear who’s calling:

• Read out loud: Have your caller announced—tap

Apps  > Phone  > Menu   > Settings > Caller ID

Readout

It now rings in the Bluetooth, but the announcement of the number or person calling is still directed to the phone speaker.  I'm trying to get the announcement to go to the Bluetooth device.  If I'm in a noisy environment (Data Center), I may not hear the phone.

Thanks

Not all BT headsets support this feature. My assumption is that yours does not.

Most Motorola phones do support "Vibe+Audible" for the ring alert.  That is often the best workaround in noisy areas, unless you're a jackhammer operator.  Then you'll probably recognoize the caller's voice as soon as you answer the call and cut audio through to the Bluetooth headset.
