SA finds my location but not my address

2012-11-02, 4:34 AM

I upgraded to ICS recently on my Verizon Droid Bionic & am trying to figure out Smart Actions.  I want to set an action based on my home location, but I can't complete the setup because SA can't find my address, even though it can find my position exactly.  If I try to attach my home location by selecting "Current Location," then the map is displayed with a correct "Your position" marker, but the "Finding address" process never succeeds.  If I try to attach my home location by selecting "Search," the process also fails.  However, in the separate Maps app, my address can be found.  Is this a bug?  Any suggestions?

If you go Settings > Apps > All Apps > Smart Actions and clear the Cache, that might work?

I was having the issue today, but it seems to have fixed itself. The GPS Software that Motorola use isn't the same as Google, and it frankly is really annoying as it doesn't work well (Shows me in Africa when I'm in Australia).

I had this issue with my new Droid Razr M, also.  Very frustrating at first, but after a few days it seemed to sort itself out, and now it has no problem finding me wherever I am.

You guys were right.  It has eventually sorted itself out.  Now my home address can be found.  In the interim, I used the church on the corner as my location, and that worked.

I am mystified that Motorola, owned by Google, doesn't use Google's GPS.

Has anyone else been picking up this issue? I just did a factory reset of my Droid 4 due to lag issues (dating from the ICS upgrade), and suddenly it can't figure out my address, nor that of anyone around me. I'll take heart in your reports and assume that it will clear itself up, but what's going on?

Motorola, what geolocator do you use?

In case anyone else has this issue, and it doesn't go away on its own, here's what I did to solve it. I:

  1. Uninstalled the SA updates;

  2. Cleared ALL data from the App Info screen;

  3. Disabled SA;

  4. Restarted the phone;

  5. And re-enabled SA.
