Smart Action auto-switching

2012-06-28, 23:50 PM

I have a SA for when I'm in the house.

Trigger: Detect my wifi, then:

  • Disable Cellular Data

  • Turn on blue-tooth

  • dim brightness to 45%

  • lower ringer volume

But when I leave the house, I want it to Turn Off Wifi and enable Cellular Data.

Is there a way the SA can detect that I am not connected to my home wifi and disable wifi and enable Cellular Data, or just enable one SA and disable the active one?

I can't figure one out and neither could the Moto tech. He suggested I check the forums.

Thanks!

This is what I think your trying to do. Have wifi on at home and off everywhere else.

Try this:

  1. Trigger - wifi connection > "+" > select home wifi

  2. Action - disable cellular data

  3. Save rule

When you get home the rule will activate and turn off cellular data, away from home the rule will deactivate and cellular data will revert back.

Give it a try and let me know if it works, good luck!

Yes, SA will revert to their previous settings. Hope the rule is working for you!

Re: Smart Action auto-switching

Does the Cellular Data need to be on BEFORE I enable the SA so that when the SA comes on, it shuts off Cellular and when I leave the house the phone will revert back and turn on the Cellular Data?

I tried it today with the settings below, without success. Let me know if this is correct:

Triggers:
Wi-Fi Connection (my home wifi is connected)
Timeframe: (6am - 9:59pm) Don't need this on when the "Sleep" SmartAction goes into effect...

Actions:
Cellular Data: Disable
GPS: Off
Bluetooth: On
Ringer Volume: 50%
Brightness: 50%

When I left the house today, the 4G did not kick in and the brightness lowered to about 20% (couldn't hardly see it in the sun).

Based on this setting, shouldn't the Cellular enable when the SA doesn't see the wireless anymore?

Also, what I also was wondering, is there a way for another SA to enable once the trigger is not met? I would like an "Away from home" SA to enable that disable the "Home" SA and enables other Actions in a different SA.

Yes Cellular Data needs to be turned on in settings. Think of the phones settings as your default profile.

Your rule looks fine but I have questions:

  • Was Cellular data turned on?

  • Did you leave the house between 6-9:59a?

  • Was brightness set to 20% in settings previously?

There's a new Smart Actions update 2.1.3.0 on the Google Play Store, and a ICS bota upgrade coming soon. Give those a try.

At this point there isnt a way for a SA rule to affect another rule (if that is what your asking). This is an interesting concept and I will mention this to the team to discuss.

Ok...am starting from scratch. I do have the ICS ota upgrade, btw.

  • I turned off the SA's

  • Check the Data Enabled option

  • Bluetooth and Wireless are on

  • Brightness is at about 50%

I did leave the house yesterday at 3:30PM. You type AM, but it is PM. And the brightness was at about 50%.

I am now going to re-enable my SA, and will advise later on.

And no charge for the SA rule to affect another. :-) If you are going to pass that on, also pass on that if a Trigger is not met, to have the option to run an SA. For example, I want my "out-of-house" SA to start when it detects that it is not connected to my wireless".

Will update you when I go out later today.

Thanks again!

Sorry about the am-pm thing, getting too close to holiday and my focus is being challenged, ha. Cool "no charge," the community thanks you ;-).  Good luck, hopefully everything will work as expected.

No luck...

When I left the house, I took my daughter to the library and the wireless stayed on and the 4G stayed off.

I had to manually enable my "out of house" SA in order to get the cellular to turn on because there is no trigger to use that tells the system "If there is no Wifi, then to do this, etc..."

Now that I am back home, the "Home" SA didn't turn back on. The trigger is that it is supposed to detect my wireless, but the wifi is off from me having to manually enable my "out of house" SA. Now, even when I manually turn the wifi back on in the settings, the HOME SA isn't turning on.

This is getting a bit frustrating. I am sorry to be wasting your time. It can't be this difficult. Turn on wifi automatically when I'm home. Turn off wifi when I leave house and start cellular.

I don't get it and will just manually do it.

BTW...I believe I do have the latest SA software. I just received the ICS update a few days ago.

Just an update...

Now none of the SA's are turning on when they are supposed to. I even tried deleting them and recreating, but no luck.

Thanks for the help anyway!
