Smart Actions and notification volume issue

2013-03-26, 12:58 PM

First off I would like to say I love smart actions.  I currently use it for one specific task right now.  At night i have it turn the ringtone and notification volume to the lowest level and turn off background data.  I have this set for 10 pm to 6 am.  It works great except one small thing.  At 6:01 am it turns the ringtone back to where it was before, which is what it should do, but it leaves the notification volume at the lowest volume level.  It should set both back to where they were but it dosent.  Is this a known issue or is there a work around without me having to create another action to set it back?

As a follow-up, I did get a call back from Motorola Level 2 support. They confirmed that they had duplicated the error. They did not say they are working to fix it, but I would assume it is being added to a bug list to be addressed in a future update.

You could try the app named Volume Locker. I use it but not smart actions. It might work as a work around for you.

I have the same problem, which seems to have occured since the Jelly Bean upgrade. I had the same Smart Action setup and this problem didn't occur under Ice Cream Sandwich. I called Motorola and got to Level 2 support. They advised they will test this and get back to me.

My guess is that this is a software glitch in the Smart Actions setup that worked OK with Ice Cream Sandwich and not Jelly Bean.

Note that if you go into System Settings, Sound, and Volumes, you can separately set ringtone volume and notification volume. However, in Smart Actions it asks how you would like to set both your ringtone and notification volumes and you only get one option for both.

My guess is that the software just needs a small rewrite.

Regretably the promised callback from the Level 2 rep that was supposed to occur has not. There's no question in my mind though that this is a software programming bug. Hopefully they read this forum and will add it to the fix list.

I have basically the same issue, although it appears to only occur intermittently: since the Jelly Bean update, the notification volume does not always change as specified by the SmartAction.

Same problem here, only now that I have disabled all the smartactions it crashes. I went to app manager and cleared app data, didn't work. I also booted into recovery and wiped the cache partition but that didnt work either. It still crashes and turns down the volumes. Verizon and motorola support both say hard reset, but there has got to be a way to uninstall it and reinstall it or something to fix this issue.
