AVG: No Longer My Cup of Tea

A few days ago, I removed AVG from the list of free security in the Lenovo KB.

AVG has had some problems lately. Here is today's:
If you are unable to boot to your operating system after the recent AVG 2011 update 3292,

Re: AVG: No Longer My Cup of Tea

I agree, AVG Free 2011 is really bad. I used it for the longest time and then my gf's computer was having issues and I thought it could be a virus,so I tried to do a AVG update because it said it was out of date, then tried to run a outdated scan and nothing worked. I ran malwarebytes but it found nothing. When I finally tried to unistall reinstall AVG it crashed her computer and I had to do a restore about 5 months back when she had AVG free 9 and not 2011. Ya, I got rid of AVG that day, and now I'm using MSE. Hope it works well. But I don't trust AVG anymore.

Re: AVG: No Longer My Cup of Tea

There is a topic HERE that mentions additional issues.

My biggest problem is that one of our favorite malware removal tools will not run if AVG is installed. It was intentionally written that way because of conflicts with AVG. Using Add/Remove followed by the AVG Removal Tool HERE or HERE still leaves remnants on the system. I can manually remove the 2011 version, but I do not have details on older versions, so they have been more difficult to get rid of recently.

Re: AVG: No Longer My Cup of Tea

Bugbatter,

Thanks for keeping the community up to date on this stuff.  Over the holidays, I tried to help my brother in law get through back to back malware issues and so the topic of which AV programs he had in place (and why they didn't prevent / fix the infestation) came up.

Threads like this are really handy reference!

Thanks!

Mark
