On 22 Dec 2017 Thinkpad P51 BIOS v1.17 BIOS update was released on the Lenovo Support website. The Readme file advised it included an enhancement to address CVE-2017-5715, viz. Meltdown / Spectre vulnerability. I downloaded and successfully installed the updated BIOS.
I regularly check the Lenovo Support website for updated drivers etc, since the Lenovo Vantage application does not appear to catch all relevant updates, and noticed BIOS v1.17 had dissappeared from the website without any explanation, and been replaced by the previous BIOS v1.16 update.
1. Why was P51 BIOS v1.17 update removed?
2. Should I downgrade my P51 to BIOS v1.16, so I am again running the advised "current" BIOS release?

Update was pulled on Intel request, as it known to cause stability issues.
Please don't perform a downgrade, as it won't change anything. It's not posssible to downgrade Intel's microcode. You have to wait for new update. More information below:
