T410 Meltdown & Spectre remediation

2018-01-16, 3:17 AM

Will there be BIOS updates for the T410 to address the Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities? I have checked in the T400/T500 forum and was told:

Please watch this page: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/len-18282 for developing information.

There is no mention on the T410 in that thread although other models are listed as pending or with ETAs. Will the T410 be updated?

Thanks

The sad thing is that Lenovo don't need to do a full BIOS upgrade/patch for every BIOS only a old microcode replace/add.

Will be better and easy for anybody if Lenovo release the sw tool for microcode update so anybody interested can upgrade microcode when will require on the actual BIOS.

Fujitsu-Siemens that develop & sell IT equipments for corporate already include such a tool for a very long time ago.

Hello,

This is a reply to someone I gave with a different model, but in a similar situation:

https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Security-Malware/BIOS-updates-for-Meltdown-and-Spectre/m-p/3945092#M307...

Does that help answer your question?

Hey Aryeh,

It does help to keep the fluid nature of the situation in mind. I work in IT as well and find myself constantly updating my own customers as it evolves. But my root question is whether Lenovo is going to offer an update to the T410 or has declared it EOL. There are several models listed as pending or pulled back, the T410 is not listed at all. If it is EOL I'd be disappointed but understanding, you can only do so much... Just wondering if I need to start shopping.

6iuj29us.exe, which delivers 1.45 is was rleased 3/23/13 and I would be more than a little surprised if it addresses Meltdown & Spectre.

Again, not a complaint. I love my T410 and would like to keep it in service but if T410 will not be updated to address Meltdown & Spectre then I just need to know and I'l start shopping for a new device. Ideally it would be another Lenovo but the difficulty I'm having in getting a straight answer on this is making me rethink my preferences.

All I'm looking for is a straight answer.

If intel will not release new microcode patch for that old CPUs to address Spectre problem nobody can do anything as microcode data are Intel proprietary.

After Intel release the new microcode anybody who understand my tutorial will be able to patch his computer without other help.
