Recognizing that your password is not sufficiently complex is the first step.  Creating a secure password is the next.  ESET Threat Blog article No chocolates for my passwords please! includes information on “password manager” software.

If you aren't sure if your password is complex, test it with the Microsoft Password Checker.  Microsoft also has suggestions on creating a strong password in Learn more about creating strong passwords.

:smileyvery-happy:  I always enjoy Graham Cluley's "Fred and Wilma" video mentioned at the Sophos link in a discussion we had a while back: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Security-Malware/How-quot-safe-quot-are-your-passwords/td-p/341153

One tip I have for a secure password, meaning one that would be hard to guess, is to take your initials, and the year you were born, and combine them into a password. For example, if my name is John Michael Smith, and I was born on June 3, 1978, then my password would be 1J9m7S863

Thanks,

Hi, jbgrzy.

Although you provided a good tip, using your example of 1J9m7S863, it was considered weak at https://www.microsoft.com/security/pc-security/password-checker.aspx

It scored as "Very Strong" at http://www.passwordmeter.com/, however that was only after adding a + to the end, making it longer.

At http://howsecureismypassword.net/ the results were not promising, indicating, "It would take a desktop PC About 1 year to crack your password".  The suggestion to add a symbol to make the password more secure.  Adding the + to the end again improved the results to 928 years!

Anybody tried this?:smileywink:

I prefer the third, most secure, option.
