x200 disk drive passwords vs FDE: need a special disk drive to get drive encryption?

Hi, I have an X200 with the original Seagate (ST9160411AS) drive installed.

I am trying to figure out if this machine is already setup for disk encryption, or if I need to install a special disk to get it.

I notice that I can set disk-drive passwords, but I'm not sure what that will do for this laptop.

Does this configuration support FDE?

And if not, what is the effect in setting the drive passwords?

Finally (assuming my current config doesn't support encryption):  I noticed another post talking about FDE available with special drives (Intel 320?).   How do I found out what drives do support FDE and more information about installing them?  Ideally i'd like to switch to a solid-state drive; are there any that support FDE?

Thanks and apologize in advance for the multi-step question
