Is the HW01 fitness band a lenovo product?

2017-09-18, 9:20 AM

There are two fitness band selling on flipkart named Lenovo HW01 and Lenovo HW01 Plus. There isn't any mention on Lenovo websites and the app on playstore is also not of Lenovo. I also saw a tweet by Lenovo official telling that it is not a Lenovo product. Does Lenovo own this product? If not, is it doing anything in this regard?

The link you gave is displaying "not found" and all the topics in wearables forums are by users. Lenovo has not responded to any of these posts (if I missed it, please let m know), plus, thers isn't any mention or advertisement or display of these products on the lenovo website. The app in the store hasn't been developed by Lenovo. It's been developed by wemeworkroom. Also, see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0Eo-2-xWKY

The linked thread includes posts by a Lenovo representative that confirms the HW01 is indeed a Lenovo product.

It's not unusual for a large company like Lenovo to engage other companies to produce hardware and software products for sale under their well-known brand name. I have various Lenovo-branded keyboards, mice, remote controls, etc. that are labelled as Lenovo but made by someone else.

Ok. Thanks for the help. Actually the band is showing extreme wrong readings since I bought it and I found most of the reviews negative. Also saw this fake controversy in 3 different places. That's why I had the doubt. (requested a replacement)

Hi

There is no official public word about it. No part numbers, FRUs, manuals, nothing on the official Lenovo page.

The only thing that I know about the HW01 are:

1) It is product created by Desay Infor Technology Co. It seems to be more like OEM branded product, and not a product created by Lenovo.

2) It is not officially supported on the US and some other places, seems it was only available on the China and maybe India market.

3) The App on Google Play - Lenovo Healthy - belongs to Desay. wuzq@desay.com

My only suggestion is to contact Desay for support. I can not find official Lenovo information about it.

Regards

Got the band replaced. Same issue with new one. I walk 2 km, its shows 1.2 km. Not replacing again. I think the problem is with every band. Is there any other way to make it right? Actually the difference between the readings and the actual distance walked is consistent. So may be, by changing hieght or weight, I can get it right.

There is no official public word about it.

Actually there is, by implication: Lenovo has created a sub-forum for it in Lenovo Phones -> Smartphone Accessories and Wearables. So evidently someone at Lenovo has determined that the HW01 is a legitimate Lenovo product that's sold in at least one country.

It seems to be more like OEM branded product, and not a product created by Lenovo.

Correct. But that applies to a wide variety of Lenovo-sold products, mostly accessories, that are genuine Lenovo, carry the Lenovo logo, but were manufactured by a third party like Desay. Other examples of this are the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Wireless Touch mouse that is labelled "Manufactured for Lenovo", the Lenovo Bluetooth mouse that, according to the sticker, is made by a company called Anatel, the Lenovo N5902 Multimedia Remote with Keyboard that, according to the sticker, is made by Primax. (Those are just the accessories that were within reach as I type this.)

It is not officially supported on the US and some other places, seems it was only available on the China and maybe India market.

That seems to be the case. It would also help explain why there is no mention of this product on the Lenovo US, etc. websites. I couldn't find it on the Lenovo India site either and I can't read the Lenovo Chinese site. But as with other Lenovo products, they're only supported in countries where Lenovo offers them for sale using their official sales channels. Just because a product isn't available in some countries doesn't mean that it's not a genuine product that's sold and supported in other countries.

P.S. It would be very helpful if those who are posting about their HW01 or HW02 would indicate where they obtained it. Or if they haven't bought it, indicate where they've seen it offered for sale.

I bought my HW02 from AliExpress (China).
And that was the last Lenovo watch I ever going to buy... :(
Useless step counter, worthless display (impossible to read in sunlight) and so on.....

Re: Is the HW01 fitness band a lenovo product?

I bought HW01 Plus in India from Flipkart. There they are saying it's a lenovo product. I visited this desay site. They have exactly same bands there (just without the lenovo branding). Some buyers on flipkart posted that the Lenovo service centres are refusing to provide any help saying that they don't have the support for this item. And the head of product marketing Lenovo India tweeted that it is not a Lenovo product. Its is grey market product. You should  talk to Flipkart for that (screenshot attached). That means, it's a product without service and we are screwed. There is also a whatsapp number in the app itself. I texted them. First they replied that I should reinstall the app. I told them the app is working fine. It's the band which is having the problem (still, I reinstalled the app). Since then, they are not replying.
