Always alert fan1 x3500 M4

2019-11-04, 12:18 PM

Dear;
x3500 M4 here is always with fan1 on alert and high speed.

Even switching to another good fan, fan1 is still on alarm and high speed.

Even without fan, fan1 alerts.

I already updated the IMM (7.20), UEFI (2.90) and DSA (9.54)

What can I do for the fans not to go full speed?

Hi Sir,

You can refer to this post https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/System-x-X6-M5-M4/X3100-M5-Fans-Running-100/m-p/3489565/highlight/true#... and follow the instructions to check if any hardware changes or higher ambient temperature detects will trigger the FAN rotating in high-speed.

1. How many fan did you install? If fan1 is the only one running on the high speed? You can try to take fan1 out of the server an check if the other fans still rotating with high speed.

2.  Are the connectors to the fans correctly installed? There was a case, that a cable from the fan connectors in an other IBM server type weren't connect correctly. The result was high spinning fans. To check this, you might have to take out the mainboard.

hi Sir,

I recommend you can follow the below steps to check whether the observation is still there.

1. make sure the alert condition

2. put the system as min configuration(1 CPU, 1 DIMM, 1 HDD, 1 PSU, with full fan) to see if the issue still there

3. if everything still fine, add more componets back one-by-one and check which compoent hit the high fan speed issue.

4. if you find our what happened, please engage you HW provider to replace the faulty part to fix this issue.

Hi Sir,

Thanks for your detail information.
