It depends on the model you have, the machine type. The link I provided is for model 6241 -  you need to check your models and use to appropriate reference as there are several revisions of these platforms, and each one had minor difference in terms of what was supported or not (assumably why there is a discrepancy on the supported GPUs).

In any case, all of these platforms are end of life, so you will only likely find the GPUs on ebay or through brokers of discontinued parts.

x3850 X6 supported GPUs: https://lenovopress.com/tips1250-system-x3850-x6-6241#gpu-adapters-and-co-processors

I don't believe the x3850 X5 had any officially listed/approved GPUs, although there is some mention of the PCIe slots that "could" be used for a GPU.

Section 4.10.1 Riser 1 here: https://lenovopress.com/sg247909.pdf

In standard x3690 X5 models, riser slot 1 has the 2x8 riser card installed (60Y0329, feature 9285) which has the following slots: Slot 1, PCIe 2.0 x8 full height, full length slot Slot 2, PCIe 2.0 x8 full height, half length slot The 2x8 riser can be replaced by another riser with one PCIe 2.0 x16 slot, which is either a full-length slot or a 3/4-length slot, as listed in Table 4-31. This x16 slot is suitable for graphics processing unit (GPU) adapters. Additional power for the adapter is available from an onboard power connector if needed.

Thanks for your answer,

in your list there are 2 supported gpu's,

in this pdf:

https://lenovopress.com/sg248208-x6-planning-and-implementation-guide

there is a list of 5 gpu's , thats because its harder to get them (widhdraw from marketing) or they actually not supported/not supported well in the system?
