System x 3250M6 (3633 AC1) - Missing PCI Device Drivers

2019-08-15, 2:25 AM

We are preparing a Lenovo System x 3250M6 fitted with a ServeRAID M1200 Series card for Windows Server 2019 Standard.

All the server hardware was presupplied by Lenovo as a standard build.

We are in the processes of completing the Windows Server install.

Device Manager detects two missing PCI device drivers :

. Device PCI\VEN_1912&DEV_001B&SUBSYS_0A021D49&REV_00\6&14048f1e&0&000800E8

. Device PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_A135&SUBSYS_72708086&REV_31\3&11583659&0&98

We have read numerous posts on similar missing PCI device drivers for this series.

We have :

. Tried automatic discovery of the recommended drivers (local and online).

. Visted the Lenovo support area for this model and downloaded and installed all the latest release drivers.

. Rerun Lenovo XClarity Essentials UpdateXpress to scan the system for the latest drivers and installed them.

. Installed the suggested Intel chipset driver (intel_chipset_win_10.1.18019.8144_PV) - recommended from one post.

,however, the two PCI devices still show as uninstalled.

Q. How do we determine what the undiscovered device are and where to get the drivers ?

Hi DarrenT,

Please try the following drivers, and refer to the post to install it.

intc-lnvgy_dd_inteldp_10.1.17861.8101_windows_x86-64.exe

lnvgy_dd_immpbi_1.0.1.2015-4_windows_32-64.exe

Hi Ccchen,

Thank you for the suggested drivers and link. It has been some help.

i) intc-lnvgy_dd_inteldp_10.1.17861.8101_windows_x86-64.exe (Intel Chipset driver) needed to be installed manually (after extracting to a folder) as it was a downgrade to the already installed driver (10.1.18019.8144).

ii) lnvgy_dd_immpbi_1.0.1.2015-4_windows_32-64.exe installed fine.

On reboot of the system one PCI device driver (i) still remains unresolved :

. Device PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_A135&SUBSYS_72708086&REV_31\3&11583659&0&98

The fact that the Intel Chipset driver installs ok (current or older version) suggests it is not the missing PCI device.

Summary : We still are missing one PCI device driver for this build.

Hi DarrenT,

For the chipset driver, it's the latest version, not the downgrade one.

I recommend you uninstall the previous driver from the control panel, reboot the server, and then install the latest one: Intel(R) Chipset Device Software For Windows.  Or you can try to install the driver from the device manager by loading the file from the extracted file folder.

Hi Ccchen,

Thank you for the suggestion.

We have downloaded and installed the version of the Intel chipset device driver you recommended. It installs without issue, however, on server restart the missing PCI Device still shows in the list.

If we uninstall the device it disappears (as expected) and on rescan for hardware changes it reappears (as expected) still as a missing PCI Device.

The Intel website has a chipset / driver scanning utility (which we though would be helpful for identifiying a missing device), however, it does not operate on Windows Server 2019.

The server has not been complaining to-date with the missing PCI Device error.

At this point in time we are out of ideas for things to try.

Hi DarrenT,

The device id can be found in the following driver package, you need to manually update the driver from device manager.

Intel RSTe NVMe driver v4.5.0.2122 for Windows

Intel® Virtual RAID on CPU (Intel® VROC) and Intel® Rapid Storage Technology Enterprise (Intel® RSTe) Driver for Windows*

If you select search drivers in this location, please select the package as the following pictures.

If you select "Let me pick from a list of available driver on my computer", please find the file as the following screenshot.

Hi Ccchen,

Your last advice (driver recommendation) once installed, discovered the missing PCI Device.

All devices are now installed and accounted for which is great.

Prior to you last advice we did some more searching on the vendor and device ID only which suggested it was related to the Intel RST subsystem. We downloaded and installed the latest Intel RST recommended driver from Lenovo Support for the server build (Intel RSTe - Rapid Storage Technology enterprise RAID Driver for Windows 2019 2016 2012 R2, V5.5.0.1334-2), however, while it successfully installed, the missing PCI Device still remained.

Following your last advice, we can now see the driver you recommend much further down in the list on the Lenovo Support website. We are surprised it did not get picked-up as a missing driver at installation with the Lenovo XClarity tools.

Thank you for staying with us to resolve this one.
