X3550 M4 board error after a scheduled power off

Hi,

Our problem is the following:

We have several IBM servers, but different models, only two of them are X3550 M4. During the last weekend there was a scheduled power off in our Institute, and when the power came back all the servers turned on without any problem,  but these two show "board" error on the diagnostic panel. Both are connect to an UPS with others that turned on without any problem.

Something with this exaclty model is happening because it is not a chance that every other models turned on  and these two not and show the same error! Maybe it is a hardware problem very easy to solve.

We have already checked the battery and in both are ok.

has anyone solved this problem or know how to fix it?

Thanks!

Re: X3550 M4 board error after a scheduled power off

Hi Mariela10,

Can you access the IMM Web interface for the two servers? Is there any event logs logged?

Re: X3550 M4 board error after a scheduled power off

Hi Mariela10,

Can you physical access the system? If yes, you can open the cover and check  the LEDs on the system board to identify the component that caused the error.

If not, follow my colleagues previous update and log into IMM web for more error details.

Re: X3550 M4 board error after a scheduled power off

HI Mariela10,

Here is the suggested actions to correct the detected problems on the Light path diagnostics LEDs.

LEDDescriptionAction
BOARDAn error has occurred on the system board or the system battery.1. Check the LEDs on the system board to identify the component that caused the error. The BOARD LED can be lit due to any of the following reasons:
        Battery
        (Trained technician only) System board
2. Check the system-error log for information about the error.
3. Replace the failing component:
Battery (see Removing the system battery and Replacing the system battery).
(Trained technician only) System board (see Removing the system board and Replacing the system board).

The above information is also available at :

https://systemx.lenovofiles.com/help/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.lenovo.sysx.7914.doc%2Fr_light_path_diag...

Please try those action on your systems and if the further support is needed from Lenovo Technical Service, please refer to the information at :

https://support.lenovo.com/tw/en/solutions/lnvo-call

Hope this helps.

Thank you.

Re: X3550 M4 board error after a scheduled power off

There have been one issue is the server will not able to power on after one system shutdown. But the issue was resolved in the latest firmware version. so it's better to get you uEFI and IMM version so that to verify if it's affected.

Re: X3550 M4 board error after a scheduled power off

Mostly for this kind of behavior you can take one minimum configuration test if it still not came back after an AC cycle, that's one processor, 1 memory, one PSU, FANs, planar. If the server can power on with these minimum configuration test, you add the other parts one by one can troubleshoot which part failed.
