Hi I have x3550 M5 it came with one 4 port backplane connected to a raid card which is all fine I can stick 4 hds in there set up raid 10 happy days.

What I would like to do is run one SATA hd completely on its own for the OS only from the sata port near the riser card at the back...only issue is where do I get the power for it from?

Hi Gabe,

The available parts information was provided in the previous post. To utilize the rear-drive bay, you may have to purchase the rear-drive kit and the additional SAS/SATA power cable

Hi Gabe,

Can the following SAS/SATA power cable be found on your server? Refer to the link and this video for the installation tip.

If you cannot find this cable on your server, you may have to order it separately.  The part number of the SS power cable is 00KC957.

To order the parts, go to Lenovo DCG Part Sales, select your country and the local distributors will be displayed.  You can contact them to purchase the parts.

Hi thank you for getting back I'm afraid I don't have any of those the only power cable I have is running to the front 4 port backplane.

There is a mini 6 pin GPU power connector on the board...am I able to use a mini 6 pin to SATA power cable on that to get power?

Regards

Gabe

Hi Gabe,

No, the GPU power connector is different from the SAS/SATA power connector.

I assumed that your server its backplane power cable- 00KC960 is connected from the front four drives backplane to the onboard power connector, and it is supposed to have another connector used to extend the power cable to the 00KC957 and then connect to the 2.5-inch Hot-Swap rear hard disk drive kit (00FJ718 and 00KC966).

The service parts for Lenovo System X3550 M5 can be found here.

Good morning

That's correct I have 00KC960 running from the onboard connector on the left to the front 4 port hd back plane...and the 2nd part of it a little further to connect to the second 4 port hd back plane...but as nothing is there that connector is laying idle....if that can be utilised...how do I turn that into a Sata hdd power connector ?

Is there some kind of cable that can plug into that and give me SATA power ports?

Regards

Gabe
