x3650 M5 IMM telnet login no username or privileges.

2017-07-11, 19:31 PM

Just recently upgraded the firmware to IMM2 4.10 and UEFI 2.40. However, when logged into the IMM via Telnet, I got this message, "no username or privileges." Never seen this in previous firmware IMM2 3.70 and UEFI 2.31. Then when trying to execute the "power on" and "power cycle" commands, I got this message, "User does not have the authority to issue this command." No issues when using SSH. Anyone know if this is a problem with the new firmware or if there's a new setting for the Telnet? Thanks.

My server's security policy is in Legacy.

It told me your original account/password has been reset with the unknown reason. The iMM default username and password is USERID/PASSW0RD. I suggest that you can login to the iMM page and set your own username and password. Of course, you need to change the password of the "USERID" as well.

I have the same problem but it didn't reset any passwords as your reply suggested.

Winterad,

I suggest that you can reboot the system then go to UEFI and reset iMM to default in system setting. It will destroy all the setting you made in iMM. The default IP is 192.168.70.125 and default USERNAME and PASSWORD is USERID/PASSW0RD.

The 'supervisor' accounts I have used when connection via telnet to this card seen to only get 'read' access not 'write' access as I can read all the IP configuration information but not change the information.

I recommend input the "clearcfg" in the telnet console. It will reset everything incluing the iMM IP. With the action, there will be no impact in your current running system. After reset, the account should be back to normal.

Hello lchen,

I have the same issue on multiple servers that were upgraded to 4.10.

telnet connection says no username or priviledges even the account used is clearly supervisor and via Web client I can do all actions.

Reseting IMM to defaults is not a solution, sorry.

Could you advise what is your previous iMM firmware version? If not, could you collect the FFDC log from one the failure machine and send to https://logupload.lenovo.com/logupload.html

Please choose the machine type and serail number tab then I can locate your data. The DATA did not contain any Mainsystem data so there is no security issue. Hope can see your comment soon.

Checked with the internal engineer. We did optimize the security level in the iMM2. The telnet funcion is set to disable as default in the iMM2 firmware 4.10. You can find the readme in the following link:

https://download.lenovo.com/servers/mig/2017/05/12/6748/lnvgy_fw_imm2_tcoo32c-4.10_anyos_noarch.chg

The alternative way is to use the SSH. Please accept the change.
