2012-08-24, 17:10 PM

Hello Folks,

Just wanted to see if any body tried this before.

I have ordered T430S with 128 GB SSD and DVD Writable in Bay drive.

Greatly appreciate any insight/suggestions

You can add an mSATA SSD of the desired capacity, and it will show up to Windows like another drive.

W520: 2960XM, Q2000M @ 1091/1380, 32GB RAM, 500GB&750GB HDD & 500GB SSD, FHD&MB168B+
X61T: L7500, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, XGA screen, Ultrabase
W550s: 5600U, K620M at 1164/1281, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, 3K touchscreen
X200s: SL9400, 6GB RAM, 64GB SD card, WXGA+ screen

Hello thinkpower,

If your wanting a brand then I suggest a Crucial mSATA.  But Lenovo also has a few other drives that are of course compatible but work well.  The mSATA comes in different sized storage so depending on how much space you want is what you should get.  I do believe that Lenovos highest capacity is 32GB.  This is only an estimate though.

The mSATA is a great idea for expanding your storage on the computer while keeping your HDD and your DVD drive.

I hope this helps,

Alex

Hey thinkpower,

From what I read you want to try to use your WWAN slot that holds your WWAN card? If that is the case then no you can't.

Here is a link to your HMM for T430s

http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/0b48538.pdf

What I think the above poster was thinking was that you were going to add SSD to replace your current HDD or add one using the Ultrabay Adaptor. From what I know you can only have two HDD installed on T430s not 3.

Best Regards,

Hiro

the highest mSATA you can get from Lenovo is 64 gigs, it is a Samsung mSATA drive, but these are special bid only. However, you may able to get Samsung mSATA aftermarket, which is cheaper and there are more size selections available. Personally, i suggest a 128 gigs one, as it would give you enough spaces for all the programs and OS + updates. My 64 gigs mSATA is nearly full after Office 2010 + Win 7 + updates + Adobe Creative Suite.

mSATA is only supported in WWAN slot of the T520, T420, T420s, W520, X220, X1 and onwards...

T500 or T510 doesn't support mSATA.

Thanks for all the responses...

Read osme other threads so the WWAN slot has SATA II interface...

.We can still add SATA III mSATA right?

hope the question is not dumb

Yes, you can.

I've got a crucial m4 SATA3 mSATA in my x220. Works perfectly.

SATA3 mSATA will just work in SATA2 mode in a SATA2 mSATA slot.
