T400 Memory upgrade XP-32- SP3 does not recoginze 4GB

2010-10-04, 19:07 PM

I have a T400 Lenovo Thinkpad which had memory 2GB. Added another 2GB and was expecting to see 4GB under system properties. But I am finding only 2.96 GB under system properties. I understand this is a limitation of XP from microsoft forums and I find there is a way to get over it by adding "PAE" option to boot.ini. So I added expecting that it woud work and unforutnately it does not. Following is my boot.ini statement

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /PAE

My question to the experts here:

1. IS there any way I can extend the memory beyond 2.95 GB when the installed physical memory is 4 GB?

OS: Windows XP 32 bit SP2

Lenovo Thinkpad T400 series.

TIA

not for your OS version. If you use 64 bit then it would as you already know.
