T43 - ultrabay adapter for sata drives?

2010-02-07, 4:52 AM

I was wondering any one knows if it is possible to use the ultrabay SATAHDD adapter in a T43?

Thinkwiki says: The adapter has a black plastic grommet at the back that restricts its use to the 60 series ThinkPads. Some people have successfully removed this grommet with a pair of channel lock pliers, or sliced it off with a Dremel after which it will fit into older ThinkPads like the T40 series. This works because the adapter actually bridges the SATA HDD to PATA as those older machines have no SATA support.

Has anyone actually tried this?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum!

Yes, it's been done.

If you search eBay you'll find aftermarket UltraBay adapters that require no modification at all as well.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

George

Thanks for getting back so quickly.

So I looked on ebay and found a few possibilties, my only problem now is that I'm a little unsure about what to do with it once I get it. Is it jsut basically take out and replace type of thing? Also I just want to reconfirm (since I'm a student and quite limited in funds) before I go out and buy it that the SATA ultrabay adapter will work in the t43 even though the laptop itself only uses pata hdd drives?

Some reading material on this topic from TPF (yes, it will work if you don't feel like reading)...
