WOW, I'd like to see that!

That should read 1.5Gbps... which is much faster than any single mechanical drive to date can achieve.

Cheers,

Re: T61 Support SATA II ?

The media transfer rate, i.e. the speed, at which a hard disk can read data from or write data to the disk surface, for a 320 GB 2.5" HDD running at 5400 rpm is typically less than 800 Mbit/s. Therefore, it is irrelevant whether the disk interface performs at 1.5 Gbit/s or 3.0 Gbit/s. The limiting factor is the media transfer rate and not the interface.

The question is not how fast can the media transfer speed. Is about the SATA1 and SATA2 support.

Do not forget at time, you may be doing transfer just from PC hardware to cache of the disk only.

...and it's already been established that the T61 definitively supports SATA 2.

How were settings in device manager as you analysed SATA mode? Was the disk's cache activated? Was enhanced performance activated for the hard drive? Do you have the latest version of Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver installed?

1. I am not sure if this is a true statement.

2. I am using the latest version of Intel Matrix driver v8.6

It show it is running at SATA1 (generation 1).

1. At latest driver version (tried serveral version).

2. Both option is set to active.

I was worry that the disk specification may be wrong. So I swap it to a Acer PC that is using the same chipset.

It show SATA2 - generation 2 !!

per intel's specifications, the ICH8 controller in your T61 supports SATA 2 but has been limited to 1.5 Gb/sec throughput by lenovo.

Is this a official statement from Lenovo?

I know the Intel ICH8 spec well as my other Acer notebook PC is also running the same chipset but at SATA2 speed.

How many model of lenovo notebook PC has been set this way (for the so claim of saving battery)?
