BenQ Monitor unable to charge ThinkBook 14 G2 AMD

2021-07-21, 18:17 PM

Hello,

I am the proud owner of the newly published Monitor BenQ PD2705Q that is capable to charge (65W) to a bunch of notebooks from other manufacturers (Dell, HP) by USB-C PD while also passing through DisplayPort and USB.

But unfortunately it won't charge this Notebook. So I would appreciate a software update and/or working together with BenQ to fix this issue.

Because I could not find any support on the Lenovo home page I ask my question here. :)

Elias

Welcome to the Community, Elias.

If I read the spec sheet correctly, only the rear USB-C port supports PD. If that's the one you're using, you have all of your drivers and BIOS up-to-date and it's still not working, then it's a compatibility issue with the BenQ. As one of our other mods is fond of saying, "Just 'cuz it's USB-C don't mean it'll work." Looking at the PDF, it does mention PD via the Thunderbolt 4 port, with PD being version 3.0. Looking at the design date of the BenQ, it might be PD 2.0. Things should be backwards compatible, but if the monitor isn't providing the negotiation the ThinkBook is expecting, it'll fall back to 5V.

Thanks for the quick reply!

As I am using the AMD version of the notebook both USB-C ports provide charging and DP output. I think that the monitor should be capable of PD 3.0. I wonder if it could be possible to be an AMD issue?

Nevertheless I wrote this post to get attention from the product developers who hopefully solve that problem in cooperation with BenQ. Both devices were only recently released.
