Feature Request: Power On with AC Attach

2020-04-14, 11:26 AM

Hello everyone,

When I checked the BIOS Simulator for the ThinkBook models, I noticed that there is no option to enable Power On with AC Attach. In general, the available settings compared to most ThinkPads are very limited unfortunately.

Would it be possible to add this feature with an update? This would be especially useful when using the devices in conjunction with a USB-C monitor like Lenovo's own ThinkVision P24h/P27h as you wouldn't need to open the lid of the device to power it on any longer.

Best regards,

Felix

Which model are you asking about?  I see "power on with AC attach" on my own X1 Yoga 3rd gen and my T490.

I was talking about the ThinkBook models, not about ThinkPads.

For the ThinkBook Plus, that feature probably wouldn't add much of a benefit as its power button is located on the side. For the other ThinkBook models that have the power button located next to the keyboard, it would be quite helpful however as described above.

Sorry you are right... You did say ThinkBOOK in your original post.  I just missed it.

I want to second Felix's request. We have a Thinkbook 14-IML in exactly the scenario described by Felix. Would be nice to be able to power up the unit by just switching on power, without the need to open the lid and press the power button.

I think it is not possible. I have the 14 Thinkbook and even with AC power to my laptop, it will not power up to screen unless you put your fingerprint on the fingerprint sensor. I have not tried to power up the laptop if l disable the fingerprint sensor. The power button still needs to be pressed to turn on the unit.

This would b a very nice feature and I hope this can be done by an uefi update like it works on all workstation I ever worked with.

The use case scenario, imoo, is pretty common. Just to power on the monitor and a few seconds later you can start to work, awsome!

The other use case would be to just plug in the usb-c cable from the monitor and a few seconds later you can start to work, again, awsome workflow!

Please make this happen!
